Tyler’s Comic Corner – 2/24/16 Edition

Posted on February 24, 2016 at 6:14 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

All-New X-Men #5
Amazing Spider-Man #1.3
Angela Queen Of Hel #5
Astonishing Ant-Man #5
Daredevil #4

Silk #5
Spider-Man 2099 #7
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #5
Venom Space Knight #4
X-Men Worst X-Man Ever #1 (Of 5)

Perfect Pulls: Do my eyes deceive me? I can’t possibly see what I think I see… does that list say Karnak #2?! Holy crap… I have to admit, I thought that was dead! While it seems a sure bet that this series will go the way of Moon Knight, with Ellis creating a killer story but exiting stage left way too soon, I’ll be happy with whatever I can get. Speaking of books I’m happy with, I’m also excited to have another issue of All-New All-Different Avengers today. While the rapid printing of this book is killing my comic budget (a trend I’m not loving and seeing too much of in comics right now), this book is the best Avengers related title you can find right now, so in this case parting ways with extra money for this title is more sweet than bitter.

EW15covDC Releases

Aquaman #49
Art Ops #5
Batman And Robin Eternal #21
Cyborg #8
Dark Knight III The Master Race #3 (Of 8)
Deathstroke #15
Flash #49
Grayson #17
He-Man The Eternity War #15
Jacked #4 (Of 6)
Justice League #48
Justice League 3001 #9
Last Gang In Town #3 (Of 7)
MAD Magazine #538
Suicide Squad Most Wanted Deadshot And Katana #2 (Of 6)
Superman #49
Superman Lois And Clark #5
Superman The Coming Of The Supermen #1 (Of 6)
Superman Wonder Woman #26
Teen Titans #17
We Are Robin #9

Perfect Pulls: I feel like it’s been ages since I wrote a blurb here in the DC section without raving about a Superman miniseries. There have been so many excellent Supes-related minis lately (including Lois and Clark, which has a new issue out today), and it looks like DC is aiming to add another to their lineup. Admittedly, I have my reservations about this one; there are few things I’m more sick of than stories related to Kandor, and that’s exactly what The Coming of the Supermen #1 focuses on. However, considering the fact that so many of these Superman minis have been knocking it out of the park, I’m definitely giving this one a shot. I’m also incredibly excited for today’s issue of He-Man The Eternity War. The Eternity War ended last issue, but the fallout promises to be even more exciting!

Black Magick #5
Chew #55
Cry Havoc #2
Four Eyes Hearts Of Fire #2 (Of 4)
Goddamned #3
Invisible Republic #9
Mythic #7
Nowhere Men #8
Outcast #16
Pencil Head #2 (Of 5)
Plutona #4 (Of 5)
Postal #10
Ringside #4
Saga #34
Spawn #261
Wayward #14
Wolf #6

Perfect Pulls: While it appears that the new Spawn movie is well underway, I’ll admit to having some concerns. It’s been made abundantly clear that the film is “not a superhero movie;” from the sounds of it, they’re taking this in a horror/supernatural direction, and distancing themselves from the comic as much as possible. While I understand their intent to make us all feel like this will be as far from the last movie as possible, the farther away you walk from the source material, the more you’re just telling a completely different story and slapping a familiar name on it. Fortunately, while I may have my reservations about the film, I can take solace in the fact that the comic is exactly what I want from something with Spawn as the title… and the latest issue is out today!

Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Red Agent #2 (Of 5)

Perfect Pulls: I am incredibly torn on how I feel about Street Fighter X G.I. Joe #1, out today from IDW. On the one hand, I feel like the whole SF roster is about to be run over by a tank. On the other hand, half of the SF roster seems to have access to military forces of some variety, and I’ve also watched most of them beat up cars with their fists, so maybe it’s not as one-sided as I think. I guess I’ll just have to read it to find out! Also this week, Legendary comes out swinging with a trifecta of their best titles, Valiant has new issues of my personal favorite Bloodshot Reborn and the smash hit Faith, and Dark Horse presents (see what I did there?) their latest Hellboy miniseries.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, February 24th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
