Tyler’s Comic Corner – 2/19/14 Edition

Posted on February 19, 2014 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

dd36Marvel Releases

A+X #17
Amazing X-Men #4
Avengers World #3
Captain America #17
Daredevil #36
Dexter Down Under #1 (Of 5)
Iron Man Annual #1
Marvel Knights Hulk #3 (Of 4)
New Warriors #1
Night Of The Living Deadpool #3 (Of 4)
Nova #13.NOW
Punisher #2
Savage Wolverine #15
Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #10
Uncanny X-Men #17
X-Men #11

Perfect Pulls: The biggest book out of Marvel this week is a reminder that every end is a beginning… sometimes literally. Daredevil #36 is the end of the Waid/Samnee era, before March’s Daredevil #1 begins the second Waid/Samnee era. We know the next book brings Daredevil to San Francisco; today we find out why. If you’re an X-fan like me, the X-offerings this week are dominated by Uncanny X-Men #17, which drops Cyclops’ students into a mission with no support, as a means of “training.” Bendis has been blowing everyone away with how much cooler these X-kids are than we thought, so I can’t wait to watch him do it again. Finally, if you’re looking to get your Peter Parker fix with his impending return, look no further than A+X #17, which pairs Pete-Spidey with the unlikely partner of Psylocke in a lost story from the past.

3649153-twofaceDC Releases

Animal Man #28
Batman ’66 #8
Batman And Two-Face #28
Batman Beyond Universe #7
Batwoman #28
Birds Of Prey #28
Fables #138
Green Lantern New Guardians #28
Harley Quinn #3
He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe #10
Justice League #28
Red Hood And The Outlaws #28
Scribblenauts Unmasked A Crisis Of Imagination #2
Supergirl #28
Teen Titans Go #2
Trinity Of Sin Pandora #8
Unwritten Volume 2 Apocalypse #2
Wonder Woman #28

Perfect Pulls: While much ado is being made of Batman stories like Zero Year and Gothtopia (and rightfully so), over in the pages of the former Batman and Robin another great Bat-story is being told. After changing month-to-month, the book has recently held a consistent title of Batman and Two-Face, telling the tale of Harvey Dent’s fall in the New 52 with flashbacks while forcing Batman to work with him in the present. As always with this book, the art and writing are at the highest levels possible, and if you’ve been missing out be sure to catch up. Speaking of bats, don’t miss a new issue of Batwoman this week, while Forever Evil continues in Justice League #28. And, since it’s a slow week from DC, now is a great time to check out a new issue of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I wouldn’t possibly talk about it this much if it wasn’t great, right??

Alex + Ada #4
Ghosted #7
Krampus #3
Morning Glories #37
Peter Panzerfaust #17
Protectors Inc #4
Savage Dragon #193
Undertow #1 (Of 6)
Voice In The Dark #4

Perfect Pulls: Image’s new title this week is Undertow, and this one (as always) sounds awesome. In this world, the greatest world superpower isn’t the United States, it’s Atlantis. When the kingdom of the sea rules, and the surface world is a wild and unknown place, the world is hardly recognizable. Ironically, whenever Atlantis takes centerstage in the Marvel or DC universes I yawn, but this book breaks the boring Atlantis mold and I’m actually really looking forward to it. Also this week, the WWII Peter Pan-inspired tale continues in Peter Panzerfaust, while the big green cop rolls on with a new issue of Savage Dragon.

Perfect Pulls: The most pronounced thing I took from looking at the indie books this week is that 90’s movies are having a renaissance in comic form right now. BOOM! has another of it’s new Robocop-verse oneshots designed to pump you up for the film, while Dark Horse drops a new Terminator miniseries that follows another woman targeting from the future by Skynet, but this time no freedom fighter comes back to help her. What’s more, neither BOOM! nor Dark Horse stop there. BOOM! answers the question “what if Loki was a famous rock star” in Ragnarok and Roll, and Dark Horse premiers White Suits, with mysterious killers in white leaving a path of dead mobsters in their wake. Finally, IDW brings together one of the most unlikely crossovers ever, as X-Files Conspiracy brings together the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with the X-Files’ Lone Gunman to stop an undead threat. How could you not read that?

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, February 19th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
