Tyler’s Comic Corner – 2/17/16 Edition

Posted on February 17, 2016 at 12:18 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

pmandif1covMarvel Releases

Amazing Spider-Man #8
Avengers Standoff Welcome To Pleasant Hill #1
Carnage #5
Extraordinary X-Men #7
Marvel Universe Avengers Assemble Season Two #16
Max Ride Ultimate Flight #4 (Of 5)
Mighty Thor #4
Power Man And Iron Fist #1
Silver Surfer #2
Spider-Woman #4
Squadron Supreme #4
Star Wars #16
Starbrand And Nightmask #3
Uncanny Inhumans #5
Web Warriors #4

Perfect Pulls: The first crossover event in the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe is here, and it… has the worst damn name I’ve ever heard for a crossover event. Seriously, I can’t even pretend to be nice about this. Avengers: Standoff – Welcome to Pleasant Hill #1? Was there an internal contest at Marvel to see who could develop the biggest mouthful? It couldn’t just be called Standoff? I’m looking forward to reading it, but for crying out loud, that’s just bad decision making right there. If I need two different grammatical marks within the title of your event book, that’s a really good sign it’s way too long. In “more reasonably named comics” news, you’ll also want to grab the latest issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Uncanny Inhumans, Mighty Thor, and Star Wars today. Power Man and Iron Fist also kicks off this week as well!

rsob9covDC Releases

Astro City #32
Batman And Robin Eternal #20
Clean Room #5
Doctor Fate #9
Harley Quinn #25
Injustice Gods Among Us Year Five #4
Lucifer #3
Martian Manhunter #9
Poison Ivy Cycle Of Life And Death #2 (Of 6)
Red Thorn #4
Robin Son Of Batman #9
Secret Six #11
Sinestro #20
Superman American Alien #4 (Of 7)
Teen Titans Go #14
Titans Hunt #5 (Of 12)
Wonder Woman #49

Perfect Pulls: The latest installment of one of my favorite Superman minis of all time hits shelves today, with the newest issue of Superman American Alien bringing together every significant last name in the DCU for what’s sure to be a great meeting of the minds! This week also brings some sad news, as Robin Son of Batman #9 marks Patrick Gleason’s final issue of the series. The amount of talented creators suddenly exiting the DCU is getting alarming, but this one in particular hurts… this book won’t be the same without him, no matter how awesome the hands it ends up in are.

sf1covImage Releases

Astronauts In Trouble #9 (Of 11)
Birthright #14
Bitch Planet #7
Citizen Jack #4
From Under Mountains #5
Huck #4
I Hate Fairyland #5
Sex Criminals #14
Snowfall #1
Starve #6
Stray Bullets Sunshine And Roses #12
Symmetry #3
Tithe #8

Perfect Pulls: Image’s newest title sounds like their coolest one yet, and no, I’m not even the least bit sorry for that terrible and intentional pun. Snowfall is set several decades in the future, and features everything I like in a scifi tale. An alternate version of the US propped up by what has to be an evil corporation? Check. The dynamics of the world changed by a terrible event? Check. Badass vigilante hero who uses the weather as a weapon? Ok, maybe I don’t specifically need that every time, but I’m definitely not going to turn it down. Definitely check this one out, it looks pretty damn legit!

Perfect Pulls: I’ve got to be honest; I can’t believe what I see in the Dynamite section today. I laughed and rolled my eyes at the three-issue Grumpy Cat miniseries put out by them a few months back, figuring it was just a silly one-time thing. Well, apparently I couldn’t have been more wrong, as today sees the premier of Grumpy Cat and Pokey #1. It’s got double the run of the last mini… who bought enough copies of the first one to justify this?! Comic fans, you’ve really let me down this time… but hats off to Dynamite for tapping this ridiculous market. Also filed under “things I can’t believe are comics,” you won’t want to miss BOOM! Studios’ Bill and Ted Go to Hell, the latest in their hit Bill and Ted line, which again I can’t believe is a thing. (This one makes sense to me though, as those movies are awesome.) Finally, Valiant’s sweetest new flagship has a new issue today as well, with Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #4 on shelves today.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, February 17th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
