Tyler’s Comic Corner – 2/12/14 Edition

Posted on February 12, 2014 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

All-New X-Factor #3
All-New X-Men #23
Avengers #26
Deadpool #23
Kick-Ass 3 #6 (Of 8)
Marvel Knights X-Men #4 (Of 5)
Revolutionary War Death’s Head II #1
Savage Wolverine #14.NOW
Secret Avengers #15

Superior Spider-Man #27.NOW
Thor God Of Thunder #19.NOW
Winter Soldier The Bitter March #1 (Of 5)
Wolverine And The X-Men #41
X-Force #1
X-Men Legacy #24

Perfect Pulls: This week appears to be a smaller week for every publisher, but despite the shorter lineups, there are some huge books on the shelves this week. One such title is a book I’ve really been looking forward to, which may surprise those who know me. Despite my typical anti-Hulk stance, one of the few Hulks I’ve ever liked is She-Hulk, who’s latest solo book starts this week. Written by the never-sleeping Charles Soule, this book promises to bring Jen back into the limelight, and remind us all why Daredevil isn’t the only badass vigilante lawyer in town. We also have a new X-Force, which is replacing/combining the last two into one. One of those was great, and one was pretty terrible, which has me all sorts of confused as to what to expect from this one. Combine these new books with Marvel NOW greats Superior Spider-Man, Thor God of Thunder and All-New X-Men, and maybe Marvel’s week isn’t as light as it looks!

batman28coverDC Releases

Astro City #9
Batgirl #28
Batman #28
Batman Li’l Gotham #11
Coffin Hill #5
Constantine #11
Forever Evil Rogues Rebellion #5 (Of 6)
Green Lantern Corps #28
Injustice Year Two #2
Justice League 3000 #3
Justice League Of America #12
Nightwing #28
Royals Masters Of War #1 (Of 6)
Smallville Season 11 Alien #3 (Of 4)
Suicide Squad #28
Superboy #28
Superman Wonder Woman #5

Perfect Pulls: I have never been as conflicted when it comes to reading a comic as I am with this week’s Batman #28. Taking a one-issue break from Zero Year, this issue is a spoiler-laden preview of everything coming to the Bat-verse in 2014. There are few things I hate more than spoilers, but at the same time, I’ve never missed an issue of Batman in my life… what a struggle! At least DC was kind enough to drop several other titles that are far less conflicting. I have no question at all about wanting to read Superman Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps or Nightwing, so I suspect I’ll enjoy those first while I come to terms with this dangerous issue of Batman!

Egos #2
Fatale #20
Fuse #1
Great Pacific #13
Manifest Destiny #4
Mercenary Sea #1
Spawn #240
Ten Grand #7
Think Tank #12
Walking Dead #121

Perfect Pulls: Do you like crime dramas? Do you like space? Do those sound like two tastes that tastes great together? Than the latest new Image book is for you. Fuse tells the story of homicide detectives on an orbital energy station 22,ooo miles above the Earth. Considering how difficult a job this is on the planet, I suspect doing it above it is even worse, and we start finding out this week. Also this week is the follow-up issue to the promising Egos, another issue of the awesome Manifest Destiny, and All Out War continues to tear apart, well, everyone in the pages of The Walking Dead.

Perfect Pulls: One of Warren Ellis’ most loved characters makes his return this week in Avatar’s Gravel: Combat Magician. Gravel had been more than content staying in prison. Sure, he could have left if he wanted, but being taken care of has its perks. But when a former student starts tearing a path of destruction across Tokyo, Gravel knows he’s the only one who can stop him, and that’s where our adventure begins. Dark Horse has another Robocop oneshot, further fleshing out (no pun intended) the new movie’s backstory, which is worth it alone for the excellent title. Finally, if you’re terrified of Big Brother, you may want to avoid City: The Mind in the Machine. San Francisco has a new surveillance system that can tap into every camera and cell phone in the city, but it doesn’t work without someone hooked into it. I’m sure nothing can go wrong with that…

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, February 12th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
