Posted on January 9, 2013 at 2:05 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

X-Men Legacy #4

Perfect Pulls: A new spider-era starts this week, as the beginning of Otto Octavius’ reign as Spider-Man truly begins in Superior Spider-Man #1, a release so huge I can easily call it one of the biggest releases of 2013 and we’re barely a week in. Also, the week sees releases from some of Marvel NOW’s best new books, including Thor God of Thunder, Cable and X-Force, and the surprisingly excellent Avenger’s Arena. Punisher fans will also want to check out Punisher Nightmare; the first issue was very promising.

DC Releases

Animal Man #16
Batwing #16
Detective Comics #16
Dial H #8

Green Lantern New Guardians Annual #1
Human Bomb #2 (Of 4)
Legends Of The Dark Knight #4
Phantom Stranger #4
Stormwatch #16
Swamp Thing #16
Sweet Tooth #40
Worlds’ Finest #8

Perfect Pulls: A quiet week from DC, but not without some gems. Bat-fans like myself will want to grab Detective Comics #16, as it ties into Death of the Family. Also, if you aren’t reading Legends of the Dark Knight, get on it; this once-digital-only release is one of the best Bat-books that not enough people are reading. Also, both GL fans and fans of the space-side of comics will want to read the New Guardians Annual #1, as it ties directly into Rise of the Third Army, and also sets the stage for the new space-centric title Threshold that starts this month.

Perfect Pulls: It’s flagship title week for Image, the week that sees the release of both its franchise classics like Spawn and Savage Dragon, as well as new franchise pillars like The Walking Dead and Hack Slash. These major brands are joined by a few impressive looking newcomers as well, such as the near-blasphemous End Times of Bram and Ben, and the demon-laden Repossessed.

Perfect Pulls: The fantastic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series that made it to my Best Of Comics 2012 list expands again today, with a new miniseries that promises to unveil everything we need to know about the notorious Foot Clan. Also, while Dark Horse may not have the Star Wars license for much longer, they’re making the best of the time they have. Star Wars #1 is the beginning of a new book set after A New Hope, focusing on the scifi action and Rebels vs. Empire battles that we all fell in love with the series for. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t point out that Mars Attacks KISS comes out this week. I’m not recommending it in any way, shape, or form; I’d just hate to be the only one who noticed such a thing actually exists.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, January 8th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
