Posted on January 6, 2016 at 4:26 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect Pulls: Today marks the final two chapters of one of my favorite events in ages, Vader Down. The penultimate chapter falls in Star Wars #14, with the conclusion in Darth Vader #15, and I can’t wait to see how this ultimate demonstration of Vader’s badassitude ends! And speaking of Star Wars, this week also sees a trip back in time to the Clone Wars with Obi-Wan and Anakin #1. Although I can’t help but feel like the Clone Wars show told their tale, I trust Charles Soule to find new excuses to follow these two, and frankly, there’s simply no such thing as too much Obi-Wan. Finally, several new Marvel books have their premier, with A-Force, Spider-Man Deadpool, and the all-villains Uncanny X-Men hitting shelves today.

Perfect PullsSwamp Thing fans were thrilled when their hero returned with the start of the New 52, and Scott Snyder’s run on that book is universally touted. However, when the series ended, there was little hope that it would return. However, Swampy fans have six reasons to be excited, as a new six-part Swamp Thing miniseries begins today, written by one of Swampy’s co-creators, Len Wein! Also this week, don’t miss out on new issues of some of DC’s best current books, including Green Lantern, Midnighter and Batman and Robin Eternal, as well as the start of Year Five of Injustice.

Perfect Pulls: There are two cool new indie books out today that you may want to make sure are on your radar as you head to your shop. Last Contract from BOOM! Studios tells the tale of a retired hitman being forced back into work when a list of his previous kills leaks and puts everyone connected to it in danger, including him. Grizzled ex-assassin stories are almost always awesome, so I’m looking forward to that! Another book you may not want to miss is Lone Wolf 2100 from Dark Horse. Set in a future where a man-made disease turns people into cannibalistic monsters, the book follows a young girl who may be the cure, and her android protector that looks just as badass as an android protector should! Throw in new issues of X-O Manowar and Letter 44, and you’ve got a great day from the indies!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, January 6th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
