Tyler’s Comic Corner – 1/28/15 Edition

Posted on January 28, 2015 at 7:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

ua1covMarvel Releases

All-New Invaders #14
Amazing X-Men #16
Deadpool #41
Inhuman #11
Marvel Universe Ultimate Spider-Man Web Warriors #3
New Avengers #29
Nova #26
Secret Avengers #12
Spider-Man 2099 #8
Spider-Man And The X-Men #2
Thor #4
Uncanny Avengers #1
Uncanny X-Men #30
Wolverines #4

Perfect Pulls: It’s a light day for Marvel, but there are still a few titles you’ll want to make sure you don’t miss. Inhuman continues to shock me every time a new issue drops, not just at the quality, but at the fact that it’s the first book that made me give a damn about the Inhumans. I went from “who cares about them” to Inhuman becoming one of my favorite Marvel titles right now… hats off to Soule and Stegman for converting me! That, along with new issues of Nova, Uncanny X-Men, Thor, and a brand new start to Uncanny Avengers means this week is light on quantity, but not quality!

Unwritten Volume 2 Apocalypse #12
Vertigo Quarterly Black #1

Perfect Pulls: I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it here before, but I’m more than willing to risk repeating myself to stress a very important fact: Deathstroke is an outstanding book. And I say that as someone who has never really thought highly of Deathstroke as a character; the fact is, Tony Daniel has written a Deathstroke story that finally makes him a multi-faceted character, and Tony Daniel is drawing a Deathstoke story that looks positively gorgeous. Throw in a Batman appearance, and this title is a must-buy! This week is also the week that the weird and impossibly compelling Gotham titles all have new issues. If you’re not reading Gotham Academy, Gotham by Midnight or Arkham Manor, you need to rectify that immediately!

Perfect Pulls: Not content to just come out swinging with mega-hits like Bitch Planet, Sex Criminals, Umbral and Zero, Image also has a few new titles to take another bite out of your wallet! You won’t be able to resist them, either. Whether it’s Dying and the Dead from Jonathan Hickman, or Casanova Acedia from Matt Fraction, those two writers have reached the echelon of “who cares what it’s about, it’s them, it’s got to be good!” So what are you waiting for… go buy them!

Perfect Pulls: Just when I think I can’t be surprised by any license being given the comic treatment, companies like Boom! Studios prove me wrong! This week sees the premier of Munchkin #1, a comic based on the uber-popular card game series. I’m a big fan of the game, but I can’t say that I’ve ever sat there and said I wished it was a comic book… but color me intrigued, because I’ll be checking it out! Also this week, IDW concludes their TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover book, Dynamite kicks of a Phantom solo book (finally!), and Valiant has a triple-threat of outstanding new books, including the newest Quantum and Woody miniseries! KLANG!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, January 28th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
