Tyler’s Comic Corner – 12/5 Edition

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 8:22 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Marvel Releases

All-New X-Men #3
Amazing Spider-Man #699
Avengers #1
Avenging Spider-Man #15
Daredevil End Of Days #3 (Of 8)
Deadpool #3
Fury MAX #7
Hawkeye #5
Iron Man #3
Punisher War Zone #2 (of 5)
Red She-Hulk #60
Spaceknights #3 (Of 3)
Thunderbolts #1
Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #18.1
Wolverine MAX #1
X-Factor #248
X-Men #39

Perfect Pulls: The NOW train keeps on rolling, and at breakneck speed! Two very anticipated titles start today, one obvious, one not as much. Avengers #1 is the clear frontrunner, promising an explosive new beginning for the title. Considering the previous iteration went out with a bit of a whimper  I’m all for a powerful new start. However, don’t let the excitement over the main Marvel team keep you from catching another. Thunderbolts #1 begins today as well, and while the concept of the Thunderbolts is nothing new, they’ve never had such a compelling roster. Also, the goosebump-inducing All-New X-Men continues, and we’re only one issue away from Amazing Spider-Man #700, a comic I fear may end up being this generation’s Spider-Clone fiasco… so you know you can’t miss that!

DC Releases

Action Comics #15
Animal Man #15
Batwing #15
Before Watchmen Comedian #4 (Of 6)
Before Watchmen Minutemen #5 (Of 6)
Detective Comics #15
Dial H #7
Earth 2 #7
Fairest #10
G.I. Combat #7
Green Arrow #15
Human Bomb #1 (Of 4)
Legends Of The Dark Knight #3
Phantom Stranger #3
Stormwatch #15
Swamp Thing #15
Worlds’ Finest #7

Perfect Pulls: Last week I mentioned that I considered Talon to be one of the most pleasant surprises of the New 52 “Second Wave,”and while that’s true, Phantom Stranger is a close second. It also clearly ties heavily into the impending Pandora-related crossover event, the first of it’s kind in the New 52… so you can enjoy a good new book and get ready for the next big thing all at once! Also, all of us following Death of the Family won’t want to miss Detective Comics 15, and for the five of you that were reading G.I. Combat, that gets put out of its misery this week.

Image Releases

Alpha Girl #5
Blackacre #1
Bloodstrike #33
Creator Owned Heroes #7
Cyber Force #2
Epic Kill #7
Great Pacific #2
Guarding The Globe #4
I Love Trouble #1
Invincible #98
Legend Of Luther Strode #1 (Of 6)
Perhapanauts Danger Down Under #2 (Of 4)
Storm Dogs #2 (Of 6)

Perfect Pulls: Some exciting new titles this week, though to be fair, that’s true almost every week when it comes to Image. Blackacre in particular looks fantastic. Set 100 years into a post-apocalyptic future, a solider who’s only know life inside a walled city is sent out into the unknown on a secret mission. Secret missions AND a post-apocalyptic setting? Sign me up. Also, I Love Trouble looks to be another impressive debut, and holy crap are we really two issues away from Invincible 100?!

Ferals #11 (Avatar)
Stitched #10 (Avatar)
Hypernaturals #6 (BOOM!)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics Micro-Series Michelangelo (One Shot) (IDW)
Transformers Regeneration One #86 (IDW)
Womanthology Space # 3 (Of 5) (IDW)

Perfect Pulls: Hellboy fans rejoice; Mike Mignola returns! A dead Hellboy finds himself in, well, Hell, and I’m just going to assume that isn’t going to end well. That’s not the only exciting premier from Dark Horse this week either; their newest Star Wars offering tells another tale of Vader’s purge of the Jedi after the fall of the Republic, and those stories are always intensely compelling. Also, are you a fan of medieval fantasy but don’t play Magic the Gathering? Hey, me too! So let me tell you a secret; you don’t need to play the game to appreciate the fantastic storytelling set in its world, and IDW has a new comic in that setting that will help prove me right.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, December 5th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
