Tyler’s Comic Corner – 11/6/13 Edition

Posted on November 6, 2013 at 7:53 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Mighty Avengers #3
Painkiller Jane The Price Of Freedom #1 (Of 4)
X-Men Legacy #19

Perfect Pulls: Nightcrawler fans, rejoice! Today is the day you’ve been waiting for, when the saga to return the Original BAMF to the realm of the living begins in the pages of Amazing X-Men #1, a day we all knew would eventually come since no one in comics can ever stay dead. (Except Uncle Ben.) Nightcrawler isn’t the only X-hero to get an unexpected spotlight today, as Longshot Saves the Marvel Universe also begins, marking the first solo Longshot book in nearly two decades (and also the only time you’ve thought of him in about as long). Also, don’t miss the newest issue of the surprisingly eclectic Marvel Knights Spider-Man, and the end of the Ultimate universe rolls on in the first issue of The Ultimates’ Last Stand. (Can we just get Miles over to the normal Marvel U already?!)

Detective-Comics-25-Cover_dsDC Releases

Action Comics #25
Batman Black And White #3 (Of 6)
Batman Superman #5
Batwing #25
Detective Comics #25
Earth 2 #17
Forever Evil #3 (Of 7)
Green Arrow #25
Green Lantern #25
Hinterkind #2
Movement #6
Stormwatch #25
Superman Unchained #4
Swamp Thing #25
Trillium #4 (Of 8)
Trinity Of Sin The Phantom Stranger #13

Perfect Pulls: If you’re following Zero Year, this week is going to be expensive! No longer contained to just BatmanZero Year has branched out into other titles, showing us what those heroes were doing while Gotham was pulled to its knees by the Riddler. Take a trip to Gotham’s past in the pages of Action Comics, Batwing, Detective Comics, and Green Arrow, all of which look fantastic even if you don’t typically read those books. (Be especially sure to get Detective; who doesn’t love an all-Gordon story?!) Also, the fallout from last week’s conclusion begins in Green Lantern #25, and two of the Vertigo brands best get new issues as well, in Trillium and Hinterkind. And did I mention Forever Evil #3? I suspect that might be important too…

protectors-inc-2-web-72Image Releases

68 Hallowed Ground (One-Shot)
Alex + Ada #1
Cyber Force #7
Drumhellar #1
East Of West #7
Fatale #18
Ghosted #5
Morning Glories #34
Protectors Inc #1
Reality Check #3 (Of 4)
Spawn #237
Ten Grand #5

Perfect Pulls: Image is back to their normal form, dropping tons of new titles this week. I’m really looking forward to Protectors Inc, a tale about corporate sponsored superheroes languishing in a world where they have nothing to fight, until one of them turns up dead, and clearly at the hands of someone as powerful as they are. Drumhellar brings the supernatural, sticking a detective who specializes in the paranormal into a town full of bog-men, ex-girlfriends, and ex-girlfriends who are werewolves (who hasn’t been there, right?). And fans of Image’s more unique titles will want to check out Alex + Ada, about a boy who gets stuck with the latest in realistic androids. I really hope that doesn’t go where I think it’s going…

It’s so similar, yet so crazy different, that reading it is an absolute blast. Oh how different the greatest space epic could have been! Also, Dynamite brings some of its best pulp titles this week, with the awesome Shadow Now and Waid’s Green Hornet, not to mention a new miniseries for fans of Red Sonja. IDW has another new Transformers title this week, and Valiant brings a Halloween-themed Shadowman as well as it’s cult hit Quantum and Woody.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, November 6th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
