Tyler’s Comic Corner – 11/21 Edition

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 1:38 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Marvel Releases

Amazing Spider-Man #698
Astonishing X-Men #56
Avengers #34
Captain America #1
Captain Marvel #7
Daredevil #20
Dark Avengers #183
Deadpool #2
Hawkeye #4, $2.99
Indestructible Hulk #1
Iron Man #2
Journey Into Mystery #646
Minimum Carnage Alpha #1
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #17
Ultimate Comics X-Men #18.1
Uncanny X-Force #34
Wolverine #316
Wolverine And The X-Men #21
X-Factor #247

Perfect Pulls: Marvel NOW is in full force this week, with new hotness and continuing surprises. Two of the most anticipated new titles begin this week, with Leinil Yu bringing his overwhelmingly detailed pencils to Incredible Hulk, while Remender and Romita Jr. take over Captain America. Also, we see our first wave of #2s hit this week, with the pretty-much-the-same Deadpool, as well as the freshest take on Iron Man yet. I’ve never been a fan of solo Iron Man books, but he’s now being steered by Kieron Gillen, the man who just made Cyclops a household name, and the premier issue already has me rethinking my views on the shellhead.

DC Releases

Batwoman #14
Birds Of Prey #14
Blue Beetle #14
Catwoman #14
DC Universe Presents #14
Fables #123
Green Lantern New Guardians #14
Hellblazer #297
Justice League #14
Legion Of Super-Heroes #14
Nightwing #14
Red Hood And The Outlaws #14
Supergirl #14
Sword Of Sorcery #2
Unwritten #43
Wonder Woman #14

Perfect Pulls: You ever get that feeling of the calm before a storm? I can’t help but get that from DC lately, who’s releases have been a little too quiet lately. Yes, the Bat-titles continue the Death of the Family epic that is sure to break all our hearts, and New Guardians continues the Rise of the Third Army that’s sure to rock the DCU’s galaxy, but the other titles all seem to be dropping hints towards a larger end game. Perhaps Pandora’s significance to the New 52 is coming to a head?

Image Releases

Clone #1
Comeback #1 (Of 5)
Darkness #108
Glory #30
It Girl And The Atomics #4
Mind The Gap #6
Revival #5
Savage Dragon #183
Spawn #225

Perfect Pulls: A comic-first from Image this week, and how appropriate that it should come in the pages of Spawn. Spawn #225 is directly related to the election, with the story continuing based on Obama winning; not the first time Obama has been a factor in a comic, but definitely the first time an actual comic has an outcome tailored specifically to it, which is pretty cool no matter who you voted for. Also, Comeback looks to spin a new take on time travel, with a company that will go back in time to reverse tragedy and save your loved ones… I’m sure that kind of time travel won’t end poorly at all!

Transformers More Than Meets The Eye #11 (IDW)
Transformers Robots In Disguise #11 (IDW)
Harbinger #6 (Valiant)
X-O Manowar #7 (Valiant)

Perfect Pulls: Lots of great indie releases this week! For fans of the books or even the show, Game of Thrones is definitely worth a look. I don’t typically like adaptations, especially of books I LOVE, but the artwork has been really impressive and GRRM has been involved throughout the creative process, and it shows. Also, fans of classic characters or noir-style grit should really be reading both Shadow and Spider. Not only are they fantastic reads, but the characters are going to be coming together, as well as Green Hornet, and if you start reading their solo books it won’t take long before you realize how badly you want that to happen!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, November 21st. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
