Tyler’s Comic Corner – 11/13/13 Edition

Posted on November 13, 2013 at 3:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

XmenGold1coverMarvel Releases

All-New X-Men #18
Avengers Arena #17
Captain America Living Legend #3 (Of 4)
Cataclysm Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (Of 3)
Deadpool #19
Fearless Defenders #11
Marvel Knights X-Men #1 (Of 5)
Savage Wolverine #11
Superior Foes Of Spider-Man #5
Superior Spider-Man #21
Thor God Of Thunder #15
Wolverine #11
X-Men Gold #1

Perfect Pulls: My fellow X-Men fans, we get a bit of a treat this week! To celebrate the 50th anniversary of all things X, this week we get X-Men Gold #1, featuring a virtual cornucopia of the biggest and best creators to ever work on X-titles, from Claremont to Simonson to Stan Lee himself, all telling unknown tales of X-Men current and past. Look at that cover and tell me you aren’t intrigued! Speaking of X-titles, the return of the “rated M for Mature” Marvel Knights line continues this week, with Marvel Knights X-Men bringing Wolverine, Kitty and Rogue to a backwater town to investigate the murder of a mutant. Needless to say, things aren’t going to go well for them; these people aren’t interested in their help, and mutants aren’t very loved right now as it is. (Are they ever?) Lastly, be sure to follow the end of the Ultimate universe in Cataclysm: Ultimate Spider-Man, get your Superior fix with another issue of Superior Spider-Man as well as the too-great-for-words Superior Foes of Spider-Man, and now that you saw him in the new Thor movie, go watch Malekith be badass in Thor God of Thunder too!

Batman25coverDC Releases

Astro City #6
Batgirl #25
Batman #25
Batman Arkham Unhinged #20
Batman Li’l Gotham #8
Coffin Hill #2
Constantine #8
FBP Federal Bureau Of Physics #5
Forever Evil Arkham War #2 (Of 6)
Green Lantern Corps #25
Injustice Gods Among Us Annual #1
Justice League Of America #9
Justice League Of America’s Vibe #9
Katana #9
Nightwing #25
Smallville Season 11 #19
Suicide Squad #25
Superboy #25
Superman Wonder Woman #2
Worlds’ Finest #17

Perfect Pulls: Just like last week, the name of the game from DC this Wednesday is Zero Year, but this week the big boy came to play too. Batman #25 marks the beginning of the second chapter of Zero Year, with a black embossed cover to boot, and something even more exciting behind that cover: the new first Batmobile! And if that’s not enough Zero Year action for you, don’t miss Nightwing #25, Green Lantern Corps #25, and Batgirl #25, as all of those titles tie-in to the event. Of course, Forever Evil is still going strong as well, with the second issue of Arkham War and tie-in JLA #9 this week. Finally, we get another issue of Superman Wonder Woman, and since the first issue silenced all the haters, I can’t wait to see what we get out of the second.

ManifestDestiny01_cover2Image Releases

Bounce #7
Manhattan Projects #16
Manifest Destiny #1
Rocket Girl #2
Three #2
Umbral #1
Walking Dead #116

Perfect Pulls: I know what you’re thinking; this is another week where I’m going to rant about how much I like Bounce. But believe it or not, that’s not what I’m most looking forward to out of Image this week, and no, it isn’t the second chapter of All Out War in the pages of The Walking Dead #116 either. No, what I really can’t wait for this week is Manifest Destiny, telling the tale of Lewis and Clark’s expedition into the unknown West. Of course, this is comics, so I suspect this won’t be the tale we heard in history books! I love the Wild West, I love history, and I love comics having their way with both… this book is a must read for anyone who feels those feels!

Valiant Entertainment:
Archer And Armstrong #15
Harbinger #18
Unity #1

Perfect Pulls: Lots of great stuff out of the indies today, but nothing that has me more excited than Valiant’s Unity. The first team book from the publisher sees Toyo Harada bring together some of Valiant’s best with one goal in mind: kill X-O Manowar! (Good luck with that.) But while I get pumped over more Ninjak goodness, I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention the other cool new titles out this week. Nothing out of Dynamite is as awesome as their pulp books, and this week sees the start of Noir (which totally should have been Pulp, I mean, c’mon guys), a team-up book for their best characters that I can’t be more excited for. BOOM! also has a cool new book in Protocol, where orphans are raised as superspys and then put back into society until needed… yup, sounds pretty sweet!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, November 13th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
