Tyler’s Comic Corner – 11/05/14 Edition

Posted on November 5, 2014 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

X-Men #21

Perfect PullsSpider-Verse is here! Well, it’s kind of been here for a month now, but now it’s really here! Amazing Spider-Man #9 is the official kicking-off point of “the biggest Spider-event ever,” which promises to incorporate every incarnation of Spider-Man you’ve ever seen while adding in some new ones to boot. And, because all events must have tie-ins, be sure to grab Spider-Verse Team Up #1, which features some fan-favorite versions of the Webhead in two separate stories each issue. (Think A+X, but with more webbing.) If you’re swinging by this event, you’ll still have Marvel books to look forward to, with new issues of Legendary Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, the latest chapter in the Axis event, and two new Wolverine books. Yes, the same Wolverine who died two weeks ago. Don’t act surprised, bub.

Swamp Thing #36
Tiny Titans Return To The Treehouse #6 (Of 6)

Perfect Pulls: I’ve said many times in both this Comic Corner and on the Comic Corner Podcast that team-ups are one of my favorite comic gimmicks. The only thing cooler than one great character is two great characters, and this week’s unlikely duo in Batman Eternal #31 proves me right yet again. We’ve seen a lot of strange bedfellows in the Batman mythos, but I’m hard pressed to come up with one more unlikely than Alfred and… Bane?! Trapped in the collapsing Arkham and whatever hell it’s unleashing, Alfred and Bane find each other to be their only way out. Now that’s how you do team-up. And of course, don’t miss the latest chapter of Godhead in Green Lantern #36, DC greats like Grayson and Action Comics, and the final chapter of the epic Superman Unchained.

Spread #4
Superannuated Man #4 (of 6)
Tech Jacket #5
Ten Grand #11
Tooth And Claw #1
Velvet #8

Perfect Pulls: Image is all about animals today, though not quite the petting zoo variety. The two latest Image titles on shelves today both focus on societies where animals are king, but they couldn’t be more different. Tooth and Claw looks to be high-fantasy at its best, but with anthropomorphic animals replacing the standard medieval fare. On the flip side, Humans looks to be the bastard child of Mad Max and Planet of the Apes. Needless to say, they both look to be great. Also from Image this week, we get the latest issue of the outstanding Birthright, American Legends reexamines some of America’s greatest historical figures, and Spawn comes within two issues of its #250 landmark.

Eternal Warrior Days Of Steel #1 (Of 3)

Perfect Pulls: There are a bunch of great indie books this week (as always), but one of the new titles definitely jumps out. Ghost Fleet, the latest from Dark Horse, tells the tale of elite, combat-trained… truckers! Yes, truckers. Some things need to be moved and can’t be thrown in the back of a U-Haul, and when your cargo is of the precious (and deadly) variety, you use the Ghost Fleet. There is certainly a bigger story here, but come on, you know I had you at “combat-trained truckers.” Also this week is another issue of the BOOM!’s riveting Woods series, Dynamite launches another John Carter series, and Valiant celebrates all things Bloodshot with a massive anniversary issue.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, November 5th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
