Tyler’s Comic Corner – 10/7/15 Edition

Posted on October 7, 2015 at 6:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect Pulls: Let the confusion begin! Secret Wars officially ends today, and I know what you’re thinking: doesn’t that say Secret Wars #6 of 9?! It sure does, observant reader, and that’s where the confusion comes from. You see, delays and whatever else goes into making major comic publishers unable to publish comics on time have reared their ugly head, and suddenly Marvel finds itself scrambling to catch up. So, for the foreseeable future, get ready for a crap ton of overlap as books like Invincible Iron Man, Amazing Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange #1 (all set after Secret Wars) hit shelves at the same time as, well, Secret Wars itself.  I’m looking forward to a lot of the new titles, but reader beware: a lot of them, if not all, are going to refer to the end of an event we have not actually seen the end of yet. So, if you’re very averse to spoilers, you may want to save the new books until Secret Wars actually ends, which will be… who knows? Comics, everybody!

bare1covDC Releases

Action Comics #45
Batman And Robin Eternal #1
Batman Arkham Knight #9
Batman Beyond #5
Cyborg #3
Detective Comics #45
Green Arrow #45
Green Arrow Annual #1
Green Lantern #45
Injustice Gods Among Us Year Four #11
Lobo #11
Looney Tunes #227
Midnighter #5
Mortal Kombat X #11
Omega Men #5
Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #15
Survivors Club #1
Telos #1

Perfect PullsBatman Eternal was one of my favorite comics last year, but there was one thing the book needed: more Robin. Clearly someone at DC has been reading my thoughts, because Batman and Robin Eternal kicks off this week, and also sets up an event by the name of Robin War, and both of these things fill me with much joy! Other reasons to be excited about DC today include the latest Green Lantern, a new Action Comics, and perhaps most of all, a new Midnighter. Oh, and Telos premiers today as well, so everyone who loved Convergence will be thrilled… in other words, I can’t wait to see if this even makes it to 10 issues before it gets the axe.

axcend1covImage Releases

8House #4
Axcend #1
CBLDF Liberty Annual 2015 #1
Codename Baboushka The Conclave Of Death #1
Copperhead #10
Dark Corridor #3
Humans #8
Minimum Wage So Many Bad Decisions #6 (Of 6)
Nailbiter #16
Paper Girls #1
Plutona #2 (Of 4)
Saints #1
Southern Bastards #11
Starve #5
Surface #4
We Stand On Guard #4 (Of 6)

Perfect Pulls: Image has had the occasional week here and there without a new release, so how better to make up for that than a week with four! Stories involving people being stuck in video games are all the rage right now, but what if a video game came to our world instead? That’s what Axcend aims to find out, while also having the coolest title I’ve seen in ages. Codename Baboushka will answer the question “what if the Bond Girl was the hero of the movie?” while also teaching everyone in comics media how to spell baboushka. Paper Girls comes from Brian K. Vaughn and Cliff Chiang, so I don’t even care what it’s about, it already has my money. Finally, Saints promises to be a combination of Preacher and Dexter, so that should tell you what you need to know! Expand that Image budget in your comic spending, you’re going to need it!

Issue #50 is the culmination of IDW’s 4 years of Turtle books, features the final showdown between Splinter and Shredder, and promises to change everything about the series… I’m so pumped! Finally, if you’re all about the new Archie reboot, you won’t want to miss the latest offering out today, Jughead #1.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 7th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
