Tyler’s Comic Corner – 10/30/13 Edition

Posted on October 30, 2013 at 4:52 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Avengers #22
Avengers A.I. #5
Captain America Living Legend #2 (Of 4)
Cataclysm #0.1
Guardians Of The Galaxy #8
Infinity #5 (Of 6)
Kick-Ass 3 #4 (Of 8)
Punisher: The Trial Of The Punisher #2 (Of 2)
Scarlet Spider #23
Superior Spider-Man #20
Superior Spider-Man Team-Up Special #1
Thor The Crown Of Fools #1
Ultimate Comics X-Men #33
Uncanny X-Force #13
X-Men Battle Of The Atom #2 (Of 2)

Perfect Pulls: The books coming from Marvel this week almost all tend to fall in one of two categories: beginnings or endings. Endings are well represented, with the conclusion of the two-month epic Battle of the Atom, the second half of The Trial of the Punisher, and the beginning of the end for all things Ultimate in Cataclysm. On the opposite side of the coin, we’re seeing the start of a new Thor mini, a new direction for Superior Spider-Man, and Francavilla coming to Guardians of the Galaxy. Of course, Infinity is also well represented this week, with the penultimate  issue of the main title on shelves as well as direct tie-ins in Avengers and the aforementioned Guardians. Arms of the Octopus also rolls on, as well as the once-dead Living Legend… all in all it’s a great week from Marvel.

Damian_-_Son_of_Batman_Vol_1-1_Cover-1_TeaserDC Releases

Action Comics Annual #2
Aquaman Annual #1
Damian Son Of Batman #1 (Of 4)
Forever Evil A.R.G.U.S. #1 (Of 6)
Green Lantern Annual #2
Nightwing Annual #1
Sandman Overture #1 (Of 6)
Smallville Season 11 Special #3
Swamp Thing Annual #2
Teen Titans Annual #2

Perfect Pulls: Speaking of firsts, there’s a lot of that going on from DC this week. Of course, nothing excites me more this week than the first chapter of Damian: Son of Batman, an alternate tale of a world where Damian didn’t die, or as I like to call it, a much better worldLights Out comes to a close this week in Green Lantern Annual #2, marking what will likely be the end of Lanterndom as we currently know it. Neil Gaiman brings Sandman back, a sentence no comic fan thought they’d say anytime soon, and a Nightwing/Batgirl teamup makes the Nightwing Annual instantly worth your time. Also, don’t worry, Forever Evil wasn’t forgotten this week; the final major tie-in lauches this week.

fg6Image Releases

Bushido #5 (Of 5)
Distant Soil #42
Five Ghosts #6
Mice Templar IV Legend #8
Prophet #40
Saga #15
Sex #8
Thought Bubble Anthology #3
Witchblade #170

Perfect Pulls: This week from Image sees the conclusion to the excellent Bushido, whose weekly releases have matched the intense pace of the book. However, as I say goodbye to one book, a book I thought I’d said goodbye to returns in an ongoing format! Five Ghosts, originally a five-part series as well, picks up right where the initial run ended and promises to continue the story of Fabian Gray and the inner spirits that imbue him with the abilities of literary figures. If you missed out on this book before, now is a great time to jump on! Also, that Saga book has a new issue too, but I don’t think anyone is reading that one…

No new releases this week.

Perfect Pulls: Is the indie book I’m most looking forward to this week from Archie again?! My mind still can’t compute this, but it’s the truth! The Fox, coming from Archie and featuring the talents of Mark Waid and Dean Haspiel, is a book I’ve been looking forward to since I saw it advertised at Baltimore Comic Con. Like a page from Spider-Man’s book, Paul Patton Jr. dons a costume in an attempt to photograph himself in action to advance his photography career… but more and more craziness seems to be coming for the Fox, and he finds himself the hero more than he intended to be! The art is great, and Waid’s writing is always superb, so don’t sleep on this one. Along with that, BOOM! has several annuals out this week, one of Dark Horse’s Conan minis comes to a close just as another began last week, and Powerpuff Girls follows up it’s exciting first issue with yet another the week after!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 30th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
