Tyler’s Comic Corner – 10/3 Edition

Posted on October 3, 2012 at 11:17 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Marvel Releases

Age Of Apocalypse #8
Amazing Spider-Man #695
Avengers Academy #38
Avengers Vs X-Men #12 (Of 12)
AvX Vs #6 (Of 6)
Daredevil End Of Days #1 (Of 8)
Defenders #11
Minimum Carnage Alpha
Muppets #4 (Of 4)
Road To Oz #2 (Of 6)
Spaceknights #1 (Of 3)
Uncanny X-Force #32
Uncanny X-Men #19

Perfect Pulls: It’s over! After twelve unbelievable issues, the heroes vs. heroes mega-epic Avengers vs. X-Men comes to a conclusion, and after the shocking events of #11 I can’t WAIT to see the fallout and how this whole thing wraps up in a single issue. Also, where one event ends, Minimum Carnage begins. Fans of the even-deadlier symbiote know that Marvel has been slow-burning a massive Carnage event, and it begins this week, and word in the shops is it’s going to be intense. Daredevil fans should also be sure to grab End of Days #1; a story set in a near-future where Ben Urich is investigating Matt Murdock, the series includes some of the greatest names to ever work on the Man without Fear, and shouldn’t be missed.

DC Releases

Action Comics #13
Animal Man #13
Batman Scooby-Doo Halloween Fest #1
Batwing #13
Before Watchmen Rorschach #2 (Of 4)
Detective Comics #13
Dial H #5
Earth 2 #5
Fairest #8
G.I. Combat #5
Green Arrow #13
Green Lantern #13
Legends Of The Dark Knight #1
Smallville Season 11 #6
Stormwatch #13
Swamp Thing #13
Sweet Tooth #38
Worlds’ Finest #5

Perfect Pulls: Let the events begin! Big things are a-happening in the DCU, and two of them kick off this week. Green Lantern #13 is the beginning of The Rise of the Third Army, or in other words, The Newest Awful Thing the Guardians are Doing Behind Everyone’s Back. I’m a card (ring?) carrying member of the Corps, but so far the build up to this saga has been a bit disappointing; this should be where business starts to pick up! At the same time, Animal Man #13 is the beginning of Rotworld, the epic tale that’s been building in both that title and Swamp Thing. Both books are fantastic, and trust me, when you see an event being helmed by Scott Snyder, you know it’s going to be great. Also, Legends of the Dark Knight, which was previously only digital, sees a print release starting this week. LotDK was one of my favorite Bat-titles growing up, and the digital reboot has been great, so if you were avoiding it because you need to physically touch your comics now’s the time to jump in.

Image Releases

Black Kiss II #3 (Of 6)
Bloodstrike #31
Danger Club #4
Fatale #8
Guarding The Globe #2
Hack Slash #18
Harvest #3 (Of 5)
Non-Humans #1 (Of 4)
Thief Of Thieves #9

Perfect Pulls: Image puts forth a new title today, one that may be worth investigating. Non-Humans is set in a world where a NASA probe brought back a disease that made inanimate toys come to life, and now they’re trying to find their place in this brave new world. It’s being referred to as “Blade Runner meets Toy Story,” and if that doesn’t peak your curiosity, I don’t know what will.

Indie Releases

Fashion Beast #2 (Avatar)
Ferals #9 (Avatar)
Garfield #6 (BOOM!)
Hypernaturals #4 (BOOM!)
Planet Of The Apes Cataclysm #2 (BOOM!)
Bionic Woman #5 (Dynamite)
Boys #71 (Dynamite)
Lone Ranger #10 (Dynamite)
Pathfinder #2 (Dynamite)
Red Sonja #69 (Dynamite)
Voltron #8 (Dynamite)
Warlord Of Mars Dejah Thoris #16 (Dynamite)
Crow #4 (Of 5) (IDW)
Doctor Who #1 (IDW)
Love And Capes What To Expect #3 (Of 6) (IDW)

Perfect Pulls: Slow week for the indies, though The Boys #71 definitely jumps out, as it’s the penultimate issue in the brutal, no apologies super”hero” epic. A new Ferals is out today, a title I consider to be the best book put out by Avatar. Whovians also have a reason to cheer, as a new ongoing Doctor Who book begins today, and if you still haven’t investigated the Voltron ongoing, please do, you will be very pleasantly surprised!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 3rd. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!

    • I don't know how you find the time to read so many comics. Especially with the slow burn you mentioned. If I'm not sold in 20 pages or less, I'm moving on.
