Posted on October 29, 2014 at 8:27 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Death Of Wolverine The Logan Legacy #3 (Of 7)

Marvel 75th Anniversary Celebration #1
Marvel Universe Ultimate Spider-Man #31

Thanos A God Up There Listening #4 (Of 4)
Thunderbolts #32
Wolverine And The X-Men #11

Perfect Pulls: The two biggest things to happen recently in the Marvel Universe, the death of Wolverine and the ongoing Axis event, are all over the place this week. For Axis, we have the start of Axis: Revolutions, which fleshes out some of the details missed in the main series. (Think AvX: Versus.) We also have the latest Axis tie-in, Axis: Carnage, which has big shoes to fill after the outstanding first tie-in Axis: Hobgoblin last week. For Wolvie fans, we get a new issue of his Legacy being told, another spin-off in Deadpool and Captain America (proving even death can’t stop new Wolverine books), and the impact of his death hits home in Wolverine and the X-Men #11. Death and destruction abounds today; just the way we like it!

ww35covDC Releases

Batman Eternal #30
Earth 2 World’s End #4
Harley Quinn Annual #1
Justice League Dark Annual #2
Justice League United Annual #1
New 52 Futures End #26
Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #3
Sinestro #6
Swamp Thing Annual #3
Vertigo Quarterly Yellow #1
Wonder Woman #35

Perfect Pulls: Today we say goodbye to one of the best things to come out of the New 52. Cliff Chiang and Brian Azzarello’s Wonder Woman was different, epic, fresh, and as of today, over. The series that brought the Greek gods to the forefront in the DCU, that made Wonder Woman the God of War and gave us all nightmares regarding the First Born closes up shop today, being restarted with a new creative team next month. The book was a joy to read, and while slow at times, was only that way to make the pay-offs throughout the story all the more worth it. In happier news, this week sees several major annuals, the latest chapter of Godhead in Sinestro #6, and another week’s dose of Batman Eternal, so it’s not all doom and gloom on the DC shelf today!

Rasputin #1
Roche Limit #2
Saga #24
Savage Dragon #199

Umbral #10

Perfect Pulls: The latest new title from Image is Rasputin, where Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo tell the untold story of Russia’s favorite Mad Monk. The book promises all the edgy humor, outstanding storytelling and art that pops that we’ve come to expect from an Image book, and with that all swirling around one of Russia’s most fascinating figures promises this is a must-read book. This week also sees new issues of Image hits Southern Bastards, Saga, Black Science and Umbral, and Image stalwart Savage Dragon comes one issue away from a major landmark.

Perfect Pulls: Archie Comics has another licensed hit on their hands today… or at least, I hope they do! Sonic Boom #1 is the comic adaptation of the latest iteration of Sonic the Hedgehog, a sort of edgier, more grown-up version of the franchise. Now, that’s been done before… remember Shadow the Hedgehog and his dual pistols? Ugh. But as a huge Sonic fan as a kid, I’ve been wishing the characters would have “grown up” with me, and once again I find myself hoping this is it. Will I probably be wrong? Sure. But if anyone can make this cool, Archie Comics can! If you’re looking for something genuinely more mature, check out Justin Jordan’s Dark Gods from Avatar. Promising dark gods of legend, a secret organization that battles them, and an uprising of man/monster hybrids, along with Jordan’s outstanding writing talents, this is a book that should be on your radar for sure.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 29th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
