Tyler’s Comic Corner – 10/23/13 Edition

Posted on October 23, 2013 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

SSMTU5Marvel Releases

Daredevil #32
FF #13
Indestructible Hulk #14
Infinity Heist #2 (Of 4)
Infinity The Hunt #3 (Of 4)
Iron Man #17
Marvel Now What #1
Nova #9
Savage Wolverine #10
Secret Avengers #10
Superior Carnage #4 (Of 5)
Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #5
Thunderbolts #17
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #28
Uncanny Avengers #13
Venom #42
Wolverine And The X-Men #37
Young Avengers #11

Perfect Pulls: There is a book out this week that, in the midst of Infinity and Battle of the Atom and all the other serious business going on, looks to be a break in the tension in the Marvel U. Marvel What Now #1, with art from the incomparable Skottie Young, looks to provide all the same lols and feels as titles like A-Babies vs. X-babies, and I can’t wait to read it. Of course, those other events are indeed going on, with BotA continuing in Wolverine and the X-Men #37 and Infinity well-represented in tie-ins in books like Nova, Secret Avengers and Thunderbolts, and two spin-offs as well. Finally, fans of Superior Spider-Man like myself are about to get a huge payoff, as Team-Up finally answers the question of why Otto has been collecting supervillains!

JL24coverDC Releases

Adventures Of Superman #6
All-Star Western #24
Aquaman #24
Arrow #12
Batman The Dark Knight #24
Beware The Batman #1
Catwoman #24
DC Universe Vs The Masters Of The Universe #2 (Of 6)
Flash #24
Green Team Teen Trillionaires #5
Injustice Gods Among Us #10
Justice League #24
Justice League Dark #24
Larfleeze #4
Red Lanterns #24
Superman #24
Talon #12
Teen Titans #24
Tom Strong And The Planet Of Peril #4 (Of 6)
Unwritten #54

Perfect Pulls: It’s finally here, and with it hopefully comes some answers! Justice League #24 is the first issue since the Crime Syndicate claimed to have killed the League… but since we know they can’t really be dead, where are they? In JLA we saw them trapped in tailor-made cells, but was that where they really are? This issue brings us one step further into Forever Evil, and hopefully closer to understanding what’s become of our heroes! Meanwhile, Lights Out rolls on in Red Lanterns #24, easily the best Lantern book running right now, where the Green Lanterns are desperate and homeless and coming to the Reds for help. But will Guy want to help Hal, or just punch his lights out? Anyone who knows Guy already knows the answer to that…

Bounce #6
Bushido #4 (Of 5)
Clone #11
Great Pacific #11
Pretty Deadly #1
Rat Queens #2
Satellite Sam #4
Sex Criminals #2
Velvet #1

Perfect Pulls: I want to say this week from Image is mostly exciting because we get another issue of Bounce, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention even more huge new books out this week as well. Of course, we’ve all been looking forward to Pretty Deadly, another outstanding offering in the “scifi-western” genre none of us knew we loved until East of West. Along with that comes Velvet, the latest Brubaker joint, once again bringing us espionage action better than anyone in comics. But seriously guys: new issue of Bounce. That just makes these other books seem like frosting on top of… more frosting.

Perfect Pulls: Jack is back! Much like the return of the Powerpuff Girls last week, another Cartoon Network legend returns in comic form, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Samurai Jack features art from Andy Suriano, the original character designer from the cartoon, so the classic style stays true, and Jim Zub (Skullkickers) knows how to deliver funny and action at the same time. If you miss the cartoon, or are just wondering why people loved it, be sure to grab this issue! Along with that comes a Army of Darkness/H.P. Lovecraft mashup from Dynamite, a new Conan miniseries from Dark Horse, and Archie flexes its licensed muscle with both Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man this week.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 23rd. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
