Posted on October 22, 2014 at 7:41 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect PullsAxis continues its brutal march across the Marvel Universe,  with an army of villains now coming to the aid of the heroes who’ve already fallen to the Red Onslaught… but will the opposing sides of the coin be able to work together? We find out today; I bet it’s a safe assumption that they can’t, but I’m looking forward to seeing them try! Speaking of Axis, the first of the tie-ins begins today as well with Axis: Hobgoblin, featuring my favorite iteration of Goblin-dom in the Marvel U. Seriously, if you’re not a Spider-fan and aren’t terribly familiar with the myriad different Goblins, you’re about to meet the coolest one of them all. And finally, the impact of Wolverine’s death continues to ripple through the Marvel U with The Logan Legacy #2, proof that even death can’t stop Wolverine from making comics.

Star-Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie #3
Superman #35

Perfect Pulls: The next head-scratcher in the Batman universe begins today with Arkham Manor, where stately Wayne Manor is turned into the newest Arkham Asylum. A cool idea, but just like Batgirl, I can’t help but feel like we’re being left with another “how the hell did we get here” scenario. Hopefully this one makes more sense than Batgirl did. (Not a high bar to set, mind you.) Also this week, DC gives one of its failed New 52 launch titles a second chance with Deathstroke #1. I’m not a huge fan of the character, and the first run was cancelled for a reason, but this one has Tony Daniel on pencils, and that’s enough to put my butt in the seat for at least a few issues. And fans of multiple Earths won’t want to miss the latest chapter in Grant Morrison’s Multiversity. Not only does it continue an epic tale, it also has one of the best covers I’ve seen in a while, so don’t miss it!

Stray Bullets Killers #8
Walking Dead #133
Wicked + The Divine #5

Zero #11

Perfect Pulls: Image has another undead title shuffling to shelves today, but I don’t think it’ll be mistaken for The Walking DeadGoners is the latest offering from the House of Ideas, and and it’s awesome art style and history-spanning lineage of supernatural defenders promises to carve out another niche in an ever-expanding genre. (Seriously, zombie books are spreading faster than, well, zombies.) If you’re not looking to add another book to your list, Image greats Wicked and the Divine, Zero, Five Ghosts, and that Walking Dead book I mentioned before should keep you busy.

Delinquents #3 (Of 4)

Perfect Pulls: It seems like IDW is constantly pushing out titles that I’d kill to pack into a box, throw into a time machine, and bring to 10 year old me to blow his freakin’ mind. Today is no different, with their latest killer crossover that would have had past-me going crazy. (Ok, fine, present me is pretty stoked too.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters brings our half-shelled heroes to a different version of the NYC they know and love, a version with a bit of a ghost problem. Of course, it doesn’t take long before they realize who they’re gonna call, and an epic crossover begins! BOOM! also premiers Memetic today, which has gotten a great deal of praise from folks in the business as “post apocalyptic done right,” and Dark Horse continues their Predator/Aliens/Prometheus crossovers with Predator: Fire and Stone.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 22nd. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
