Tyler’s Comic Corner – 10/2/13 Edition

Posted on October 2, 2013 at 7:43 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

ANXMENSpecialMarvel Releases

All-New X-Men #17
All-New X-Men Special #1
Captain America Living Legend #1 (Of 4)
Daredevil Dark Nights #5 (Of 8)
Fantomex MAX #1 (Of 4)
Hunger #3 (Of 4)
Infinity The Hunt #2 (Of 4)
Iron Man #16
Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1 (Of 5)
Mighty Avengers #2
Savage Wolverine #9
Superior Foes Of Spider-Man #4
Thunderbolts #16

Perfect Pulls: The amount of exciting books coming from Marvel this week is ridiculous. First, several new books begin this week, each even more exciting than the last. To start, three new miniseries begin.  The long-lost Astonishing Captain America returns from limbo as Captain America Living Legend, which looks like it will definitely be worth the extra-long wait. Second, Marvel Knights makes a return, bringing its “rated M for Mature” brand of storytelling to the Superior Spider-Man, forcing Doc Ock Spidey through a gauntlet even Peter never attempted: 99 villains! And then, we get Fantomex MAX, promising all the sarcasm and bullets you’d expect from Marvel’s most complicated mutant. Also, the Spider-Man/Hulk/ANXM crossover The Arms of the Octopus begins in All-New X-Men Special #1, bringing all three against… Doctor Octopus? Wait, what? All that, and I haven’t even mentioned the half dozen other great books… this week from Marvel is great for the heart and terrible for the wallet.

ForeverEvil2DC Releases

Action Comics #24
Batman Black And White #2 (Of 6)
Batwing #24
Detective Comics #24
Earth 2 #16
Fairest #20
Forever Evil #2 (Of 7)
Green Arrow #24
Green Lantern #24
He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe #6
Hinterkind #1
Movement #5
Stormwatch #24
Swamp Thing #24
Trillium #3 (Of 8)
Trinity Of Sin The Phantom Stranger #12
Witching Hour #1 (One Shot)

Perfect Pulls: Hey look, our regular DC titles are back! Villains Month is over, and DC has returned to its regularly scheduled programming, and with some particular gems indeed. Of course, Forever Evil #2 takes top billing, which promises a conflict for the Teen Titans that does not go well for them. The next Lantern event Lights Out begins in Green Lantern #24, and the outstanding Batman Black and White, probably my favorite book on my pull list right now, has another killer issue today as well. Also, don’t miss out on new Vertigo titles Hinterland; considering the quality of that brand right now, each book it debuts deserves all your attention.

Mind The Gap #15
Morning Glories #32
Reality Check #2
Spawn #236,
Todd The Ugliest Kid On Earth #6

Perfect Pulls: The new book from Image this week looks like a guaranteed hit… as always! Not only is Bushido the story of the Japanese Emperor’s lone soldier against supernatural threats, all five issues of this beautiful looking book come out this month. Hooray, instant gratification! Fan favorite Mara also ends today, and the still-unbelievably-good Spawn continues to roll on as well.

Valiant Entertainment:
Quantum And Woody #4
Shadowman #11

Perfect Pulls: Two new titles premiers this week, and a whole bunch of great books continue as well from the indies this week. Dynamite continues to flex its pulp muscle with The Shadow Now, which is easily one of the books I’m looking forward to most this week. It’s exactly what it sounds like: the Shadow is back, and in modern day New York; yes please, where do I sign? Dark Horse has The Occultista supernatural title that sounds likely to get very dark. (No pun intended.) While you’re grabbing these, don’t miss The Star Wars #2, Uber #6 and God is Dead #2, all worth your time and attention.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 1st. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
