Tyler’s Comic Corner – 10/15/14 Edition

Posted on October 15, 2014 at 6:24 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Thanos A God Up There Listening #2 (Of 4)
Uncanny X-Men #27
Wolverine And The X-Men #10

Perfect Pulls: He’s the best at what he does, and today, what he does is die. That’s right folks, take a shot of whiskey and kiss the nearest Canadian to you, Wolverine bites the big one today! Wolverine’s death occurs in the final issue of Death of Wolverine (appropriately), and the effects begin to take hold in The Logan Legacy #1, because even in death Wolverine still manages to be in a dozen comics. If hairy mutants aren’t your thing, perhaps spiders are? If so you’re in luck, with new issues of Spider-Man 2099, Ultimate Spider-Man and the final issue of Edge of Spider-Verse on shelves today. And, of course, there’s also the newest chapter of Axis, where we get to see those sweet, sweet Stark sentinels in action!

jl35covDC Releases

Batman And Robin #35
Batman Eternal #28
Batman Superman #15
Batwoman #35
Earth 2 World’s End #2
Fables #145
Green Lantern New Guardians #35
Infinite Crisis The Fight For The Multiverse #4
Justice League #35
New 52 Futures End #24
Red Hood And The Outlaws #35
Supergirl #35
Teen Titans #3
Teen Titans Go #6
Trinity Of Sin #1

Perfect Pulls: When the New 52 began, Justice League was one of its best titles. The rebooted League felt new and different despite having all the same faces, and seemed to get better with every issue. However, as time rolled on, the book started to feel more stale, and I know many folks who stopped pulling it altogether. Well, if you’re one of those, it’s time to get back in the League. Since the end of Forever EvilJustice League has rocketed back to “must-read” status, and now is a great time to jump back in if you left. Also this week is the next chapter of Robin Rises in Batman and Robin #35, where we finally get to see the Hellbat in action. And finally, don’t miss the latest chapter of Godhead in the pages of Green Lantern New Guardians #35. This event is the first time I’ve ever taken the New Gods seriously, and I suspect you’ll be saying the same!

dc8covImage Releases

Cutter #3
Deadly Class #8
Manifest Destiny #11
Mice Templar IV Legend #14
Supreme Blue Rose #4
Trees #6
Witchblade Case Files #1

Perfect Pulls: Don’t let a smaller list fool you into thinking Image is taking an off week. While there’s no critically acclaimed new title (though Witchblade Case Files #1 will be a happy addition to any fans of the franchise), there’s still plenty of Image goodness to be had. In particular, if you’re sleeping on either Deadly Class or Trees, you need to rectify that right away. Trees is Warren Ellis at his finest, and Deadly Class is Rick Remender’s homage to everything that’s good and bad about the 80’s, growing up, and murder. How can you pass on that?

Valiant Universe Handbook 2014

Perfect Pulls: Bad news, parents! You know that video game Skylanders, the one with all the minifigures that your kids need all of and required you to take out a second mortgage to afford? There’s a comic book about it now! That’s right, IDW has found a way to take more Skylanders-related money from your wallet with their latest licensed offering, and considering the care they put into these, you can count on it actually being pretty sweet. Dynamite comes out swinging with new issues of Turok and Magnus Robot Hunter, two of the best indie books going right now. And Quantum and Woody fans (or just fans of goats) will want to check out Q2: The Return of Quantum and Woody, out today from Valiant!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 15th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
