Tyler’s Comic Corner – 10/10 Edition

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 11:18 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Marvel Releases

Avengers #31
Avenging Spider-Man #13
AvX Consequences #1 (Of 5)
Captain America #18
Deadpool #62
Fantastic Four #611
First X-Men #3 (Of 5)
Invincible Iron Man #526
Marvel Universe Vs The Avengers #1 (Of 4)
Red She-Hulk #58
Scarlet Spider #10
Secret Avengers #32
Secret Service #4 (Of 6)
Space Punisher #4 (Of 4)
Ultimate Comics X-Men #17
Uncanny Avengers #1
Wolverine #314
Wolverine And The X-Men #18
X-Men #37

Perfect Pulls: Marvel NOW! begins, uh, now! The hotly anticipated Uncanny Avengers kicks off a new beginning in the Marvel Universe, while AvX Consequences makes sure we don’t forget the price paid to achieve it. While the majority of releases this week mark the end of their respective lines (let the Great Renumbering begin), Red Hulk continues forward, though with Betty Ross at the helm. Definitely worth your consideration; Red She-Hulk is a fantastic character, and can definitely carry her own title.

DC Releases

Arrow #1
Batgirl #13
Batman #13
Batman And Robin #13
Batman Arkham Unhinged #7
Before Watchmen Dr. Manhattan #2 (Of 4)
Deathstroke #13
Demon Knights #13
Frankenstein Agent Of S.H.A.D.E. #13
Green Lantern Corps #13
Green Lantern The Animated Series #7
Grifter #13
Phantom Stranger #1
Punk Rock Jesus #4 (Of 6)
Ravagers #5
Suicide Squad #13
Superboy #13
Team 7 #1

Perfect Pulls: FINALLY, Batman #13 is here. The Joker makes his triumphant return in the beginning of the Death of the Family arc, further proof that Snyder and Capullo never let the foot off the gas when it comes to Batman. Every Bat-title is tied in, similar to the recent Night of Owls event, and each issue promises to contain some of the darkest Joker action yet. Also, two of the “third wave” books see their #1s hit shelves in Team 7 and Phantom Stranger… how are we already a month out from the beginning of the zero issues?! Time flies when you’re reading comics.

Image Releases

Creator Owned Heroes #5
Halloween Eve (One Shot)
Hoax Hunters #4
MacGyver Fugitive Gauntlet #1 (Of 5)
Morning Glories #22
Point Of Impact #1 (Of 4)
Saga Volume 1 TPB, $9.99
Think Tank #3, $3.99

Perfect Pulls: Whenever I see particularly great deals on new trades I like to highlight them here, and Image definitely has one this week, with its critical masterpiece Saga. Similar to their Morning Glories trades, Image has released one of its most lauded series in a book with a tiny price, so if you keep hearing about it and not investigating now you can for cheap. Also, a MacGuyver comic! Co-written by the original creator! Buy it, read it, and then combine it with several household items to break free of a trap!!

Indie Releases

Crossed Badlands #15 (Avatar)
Dan The Unharmable #6 (Avatar)
Dicks #9 (Avatar)
Adventure Time Marceline And The Scream Queens #4 (Of 6) (BOOM!)
Fanboys Vs Zombies #7 (BOOM!)
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 #14 (Dark Horse)
Conan The Barbarian #9 (Dark Horse)
Creep #2 (Of 4) (Dark Horse)
Massive #5 (Dark Horse)
Star Wars Knight Errant Escape #5 (of 5) (Dark Horse)
Star Wars Lost Tribe Of The Sith Spiral #3 (Of 5) (Dark Horse)
Damsels #2 (Dynamite)
Dark Shadows #8 (Dynamite)
Dark Shadows Vampirella #3 (Dynamite)
Evil Ernie #1 (Dynamite)
Voltron Year One #5 (Dynamite)
Zorro Rides Again #12 (Of 12) (Dynamite)
G.I. JOE #18 (IDW)
Haunted Horror #1 (IDW)
Popeye #6 (IDW)
Pound Ghoul’s Night Out #2 (Of 4) (IDW)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics #5 (IDW)
Transformers Regeneration One #84 (IDW)
Transformers Robots In Disguise #10 (IDW)
Transfusion #1 (Of 3) (IDW)
Archer and Armstrong #3 (Valiant)
Bloodshot #4 (Valiant)

Perfect Pulls: History is made in Buffy #14, with the premiere of Billy, the first male Slayer. Could just be a book-selling move, especially since such an emphasis has been placed on his being gay, but this is a franchise (and Dark Horse is a company) that I’m more than willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Fans of Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) will want to grab his new book Transfusion, and if you remember Evil Ernie you’ll be happy to know he makes his return this week.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, October 10th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!

    • Mr. The Plague

Batman #13 was pretty bad ass. The Joker brought a whole new level of creepy to the game.
