If there is anything that the internet has taught us it is that cats are destined to inherit the Earth (geeks will be their humans). Cats have brought the internet, in it’s vast wonderfulness, together into a crazy cat loving community, sorry dog owners.

Lil’ Bub is a documentary created by cat people for cat people. It explores the origins of cat internet domination and delves into the current love. We get a look into the life of one of the most famous internet cats of all time, Lil’ Bub, and let me tell you it’s pretty damn cute.

When I saw the the trailer for Lil’ Bub and Friendz I instantly knew I had to see it. I have been a crazy cat person my entire life so I knew this was going to be great. What I didn’t count on was how endearing it would be. The life of Lil’ Bub and her human has been a roller coaster of fame, fortune and health issues.

Lil Bub and Mike

The price of being that irresistibly adorable is constant health issues for Bub but dammit if she doesn’t make the best of it. We get to follow Bub and her human Mike Bridavsky through daily life and their journey to the first annual Open Field Internet Cat Video Festival. What follows is a glorious discovery of community and silliness that goes along with cat videos.

Juliette Eisner and Andy Copper aren’t just telling a story about a guy and a cat, they really succeed in showing the phenomenon that is internet cat culture. Of course there are some crazy people in the bunch but as a whole it really makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside to know there are tons of people who feel the same way you do about it. I agree wholeheartedly with the person in documentary who said dog people meet other dog people at parks, we have the internet.

So congratulations to Lil’ Bub and Friendz for helping bring the joy of cats to the film world and for winning Best Feature Film at the Tribeca Film Festival. Stay tuned for an Geek Legacy interview with filmmakers, Juliette Eisner and Andy Copper. In the meantime, watch this adorable trailer for Lil’ Bub and Friendz.

I give Lil’ Bub 4/5 STARS
