It’s really happening. Dolph Lundgren’s sequel to the 1990 film, Kindergarten Cop, is nearly here, and now we have the first trailer to share with you. Keep in mind that Universal Pictures’ Kindergarten Cop 2 will be a home video release, but based on the level of interest over the film’s production and first images, and judging from how popular the original action-comedy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger remains more than 25 years later, this silly sequel might gain cult-classic status in record time.

Bill Bellamy (Any Given Sunday, TV’s Hot in Cleveland) also stars alongside Lundgren in the action-comedy directed by Don Michael Paul (Jarhead 2: Field of Fire, Tremors 5: Bloodlines) and written by David H. Steinberg (American Pie 2, Miss Dial). Kindergarten Cop 2 arrives on DVD and Digital HD on May 17 and will feature deleted scenes, a gag reel, and a segment titled Kindergarten Cop 2: Undercover.

Here the synopsis for Universal Pictures’ Kindergarten Cop 2:

In Kindergarten Cop 2, Lundgren plays Agent Reed, who goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher, this time to recover a flash drive with sensitive information that was stolen from the Witness Protection Program. However, in addition to dealing with a handful of students, Reed also faces problems with the school’s “politically correct environment.”

Here’s what Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Universal 1440 Entertainment, had to say about the sequel/reboot:

“Kindergarten Cop grossed over $200 million worldwide and has been entertaining audiences of all ages. In this exciting reboot, we introduce a unique blend of humor and action to the next generation of viewers, as well as share a reimagined version of the story with longtime fans who have made this an enduring family favorite.”

Looking forward to this kid friendly family oriented movie that I can watch with my grand kids. Sure there is no Arnold. I don’t need Arnold to enjoy a good movie. The director Don Michael Paul has had successes with previous sequels like Jarhead 2 and Tremors five. I don’t see why he would stop here. His vision of the films, gives it a fresh direction. I can’t wait to see his latest work. Thanks Universal for releasing this sequel to a classic.
