One of the advantages of having J.K. Rowling serve as screenwriter on the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is not only does she carry the authority and knowledge of the entire Potter universe, but she can also weave and dream up new stories to help supplement Fantastic Beasts before it arrives. This week, Rowling and Pottermore are setting the stage for Fantastic Beasts by providing the “History of Magic in North America”, a useful topic since Fantastic Beasts takes place in New York City in the 1920s.

According to a trailer released today, the topics discussed in the new stories from Rowling include [via CS] “The wizard school of the United States, Ilvermorny; Skin-walkers, a Native American legend; The Salem witch trials, a formative event for the country’s national magical identity; and the US version of the Ministry of Magic, the Magical Congress of the United States of America.”

The first story will be released tomorrow on Pottermore at 9am EST with a new story every day until Friday. Check out the cool trailer for the “History of Magic in North America” below.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens November 18th.
