Top 10 Characters We Need in MvC3 (Marvel Side)

Posted on January 22, 2013 at 2:04 pm by Christopher Ulaski

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has been out for over a year and fans are yearning for more. Capcom is aware of the demand and we can only hope this leads to an update. Balances and tweaks to the engine are a given, but what we all want is new characters. I’ve compiled a list of my top 20 additions to the roster (10 each from both the Marvel and Capcom). Keep in mind that “Ultimate” added twelve characters (totaling the cast to 50!) so an additional 20 may be pushing it, but we have to dream big, right?

While putting this list together, I took into account the following factors:

1. Character Popularity and Relevance
Some characters, though fan favorites, might not be relevant or involved in modern storylines. However, characters that have had a huge impact on the Marvel and Capcom universes can’t be simply ignored. Marvel tends to want characters in the game that are current or have big plans in the future. It’s no mistake that Rocket Raccoon is on the roster.

2. Roster Diversity
As great as it would be to have all the X-Men at your fingertips, the “Vs. Series” is all about variety. It’s sort of like a greatest hits album for both Marvel and Capcom.  The more properties the merrier I always say.

3. Gameplay Style Diversity
As cool as it would be to have both the Punisher and Chris Redfield on the roster, they’re basically the same in terms of fighting style. The reason that the “Vs. Series” is so popular is because of the endless possibilities created by such a diverse cast.

And here we go:

Built as the ultimate killing machine, Lady Deathstrike is truly a cyborg that you don’t want to mess with. Though similar to both Wolverine and X-23, her move set can vary slightly due to her robotic enhancements.

I must admit that this choice is more for me. Darkhawk is a lesser known character on the Marvel roster and only lasted a little over 4 years in the mid 90’s. He could play as a mix between Nova and Firebrand. Having Portal show up for a wicked hyper combo wouldn’t be a bad inclusion either.

With the ability to cover her body in solid diamond, Emma Frost would be a formidable opponent. Her telepathic abilities could allow for some pretty sweet counter moves as well.

This guy can manipulate sand and form rock solid weapons. He could play the distance game like Dhalsim and brawl like Haggar. Look out Spidey!

Atlantis certainly needs some representation in this game and who better than Namor. His unique set of abilities should lend to some spectacular moves and an interesting play style.

Who better to represent Marvel than Ms. Marvel herself? Similar to Rogue (for obvious reasons), Ms. Marvel could lay down a hefty beating just as much as her male counterparts.

There’s not much more I can say on this subject that you all aren’t already thinking. Just put him in the game.

For those that stayed for the mid-credits scene of “The Avengers,” you know that the Mad Titan has big plans for the future. Having the Infinity Gauntlet in his possession, will more than make up for being a bit sluggish and would allow for some visually stunning hyper combos.

Venom may not be as prevalent in the world of comics as he was in 90’s, but he should make the cut based off popularity alone. I would prefer the Eddie Brock version, but having Mac Gargan would be cool too.

This guy is the leader of the X-Men and a veteran of the “Vs. Series.” No more questions.

Honorable Mention:  Songbird, Gambit, Star Lord

Well that about does it for the Marvel portion of the cast. Do you play Marvel? Leave your thoughts below.

Stay tuned for the Capcom side.
