Top 10 Characters We Need in MvC3 (Capcom Side)

HaggarShark

Today, we continue the “MvC3” Top 10 with the Capcom side of the roster. Click here if you missed the Marvel portion.

Again, the factors I take into account are as follows:

1. Character Popularity and Relevance
Some characters, though fan favorites, might not be relevant or involved in modern storylines. However, characters that have had a huge impact on the Marvel and Capcom universes can’t be simply ignored. Marvel tends to want characters in the game that are current or have big plans in the future. It’s no mistake that Rocket Raccoon is on the roster.

2. Roster Diversity
As great as it would be to have all the X-Men at your fingertips, the “Vs. Series” is all about variety. It’s sort of like a greatest hits album for both Marvel and Capcom.  The more properties the merrier I always say.

3. Gameplay Style Diversity
As cool as it would be to have both the Punisher and Chris Redfield on the roster, they’re basically the same in terms of fighting style. The reason that the “Vs. Series” is so popular is because of the endless possibilities created by such a diverse cast.

Here we go:

maki

10. MAKI (FINAL FIGHT 2, STREET FIGHTER)

Maki has both cleaned up crime with Mike Haggar and entered the Street Fighter tournament. She doesn’t have fireballs or fancy super powers, but she can sure as hell pummel you with her martial arts prowess. Maki’s trademark spin kick named Reppukyaku (yeah I had to look that one up) drains her energy as she performs it. Similar to Haggar’s life draining spinning lariat, it could be a powerful move that’s well worth it if timed properly.

vulgus

9. VULGUS PILOT (VULGUS)

“Vulgus” was Capcom’s debut arcade game. Deadpool, in one of many hilarious victory speeches, gives it a shout out. I’m not sure how logical it would be to make the ship a character, but why not have the pilot step out to join the fray. I’m sure the ship can come in handy as one of his special moves.

ruby heart

8. RUBY HEART (MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2)

Diehard fans might object, but this would be a great way to pay tribute to “MvC2.” Ruby is a pirate with many unique weapons and abilities. I say why not?

Sigma

7. SIGMA (MEGA MAN X)

There’s certainly a lack of villains on the Capcom side and Sigma would more than make up for it. Incredible weaponry and a legion of Mavericks at this side, Sigma is as formidable as they come.

zangief

6. ZANGIEF (STREET FIGHTER)

I must admit that I’m breaking my own rule here. Zangief shares a very similar move set with Mike Haggar. They’re both wrestlers. They both have a spinning lariat and spinning piledriver. However, this is exactly why they both need to be in the same game. What if they both piledrived each other at the same time? Think about it.

onimusha

5. AKECHI SAMANOSUKE (ONIMUSHA: WARLORDS)

I know there’s plenty of dudes with swords in this game already, but none are quite like this guy. Akechi wields different weapons and uses elemental powers. He can even upgrade his abilities through the use of his demon gauntlet. Akechi could have a style that’s a cross between Frank West, Amaterasu, and Vergil.

jin

4. JIN SAOTOME (CYBERBOTS)

Jin is another “Vs. Series” veteran and fan favorite. His wacky move set and giant robot hyper moves make Jin a very unique fighter.

talbain

3. JON TALBAIN (DARKSTALKERS)

The makers of “Twilight” should have looked to Talbain as a werewolf reference instead of a bunch of shirtless dudes in jean shorts. How cool would it be for him to team up with Amaterasu and Wolverine? The wolfpack is back!

captain

2. CAPTAIN COMMANDO

Another “Vs. Series” favorite. Captain Commando has it all. Energy gloves. The Captain Cannon. The Captain Boots. The Captain Protector. The Captain Goggles. The Captain Gauntlet.  And if that weren’t enough, his hyper combos involve all his teammates coming in to help with the beatdown. On top of that, he can now team with Spencer, the Bionic Commando. Make it happen Capcom.

x

1. MEGA MAN X

Don’t get me wrong, Zero is awesome, but the fact that the upgraded Mega Man (or any version of Mega Man for that matter) wasn’t included is a darn shame. Who better to represent Capcom than the blue bomber himself? X could take the abilities from defeated foes and use them against his next opponent. Now that would be cool.

Honorable Mention: Gene (God Hand), El Stingray (Saturday Night Slam Masters) and Rolento (Street Fighter)

Well there you have it. I hope you enjoyed these “MvC3” countdowns. Please leave your thoughts below.
