Today Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced their 2013 Tomb Raider reboot has sold over 8.5 million copies setting a franchise record for Lara Croft. Additionally, the game also set franchise sales records for its first day and month. There’s nothing that young lady can’t do!

From today’s press release:

TOMB RAIDER ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level. The game’s incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics. “Our studio is proud of what we accomplished with the game.”

I reviewed the game back in March 2013 stating “Tomb Raider is an excellent game and would recommend it to anyone that has a taste for adventure. Crystal Dynamics should feel proud of what they have accomplished in reinventing the franchise… The story is engaging from start to finish with moments of pure terror and excitement.  I look forward to Lara’s next adventure which can’t come soon enough.”

A few years ago we caught up with Gail Simone who would be taking the reins of the Tomb Raider comic series published by Dark Horse Comics. In our interview we discussed Lara’s transformation and what the future holds for our favorite heroine.

Last year at E3 news broke on a follow up to the 2013 hit with Rise of the Tomb Raider for Xbox One. While no release date has been announced, folks are still waiting to hear when to expect this sequel on the PS4 and PC.
