Earlier today Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed several updates for upcoming Wii U and 3DS games. It’s obvious Nintendo is looking to bring value to both platforms this holiday season. With a little luck, this welcomed increase in software and variety will spark some much needed support in the gaming community.

Wii U News

Sadly, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze gets delayed. “Previously we announced this title would launch in North America in December of this year,” said Satoru Iwata. “However, in order to deliver the optimum gaming experience we need a little more time for development of this title. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze will now be released in North America in February 2014.”

Pikmin 3 got a free software update today, which includes a new Mission Mode stage and a global player ranking system. DLC was also announced with the first round consisting of the “Collect Treasure” Pack (stages 7-10), listed at $1.99 with additional stages available in the future.

Sonic has officially joined the roster of playable characters in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Look for this delightful brawler in 2014.

Nintendo 3DS News

A new Kirby game was announced today featuring side-scrolling action and is set to launch in 2014. A teaser trailer was released and more details about this game will be available soon.

A few fun facts were revealed for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. A NPC named Ravio lets players rent or buy items before they venture off to the next dungeon of their choosing. Basically, you get to decide the dungeon order by choosing which items you need along the way. This is an interesting alternative to the more traditional linear path. The game launches in stores and the Nintendo eShop on Nov. 22.

Also announced today was the upcoming release of Bravely Default, a role-playing fantasy game developed by Square Enix. The game introduces a new battle system, updated UI, and new content not included in the original Japanese version. Bravely Default is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2014.
