Tim Burton to Direct Live-Action DUMBO Film

Posted on March 10, 2015 at 12:45 pm by David "Snackbar" Edmundson

Back in July it was rumored that a live-action Dumbo remake from Disney was in development, having hired Transformers and The Ring scribe Ehren Kruger to bang out a script. Now it appears as though Tim Burton will be directing the film, which certainly makes for an interesting choice. THR broke the news of Burton’s involvement and, as previously reported, “the new take involves the adaptation of original movie adding a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s story.” What’s not totally clear is when this movie will be happening. Burton is still wrapping up Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar dumbo-poster1-426x600Children and there as been a lot of talk about Beetlejuice 2 being his next project.

As recently as January writer Seth Grahame-Smith was hopeful that Beetlejuice 2 would indeed be Burton’s next film after Peregrine. Smith has written a few drafts, and no doubt Kruger’s Dumbo script is beginning to assume final form these days, so I have no idea which one of these projects goes first. Kinda pulling for Beetlejuice 2 just a little bit, to be honest. Burton proved himself to be surprisingly adept at revisiting familiar ground on Frankenweenie and I’d love to see Winona Ryder as Lydia again. We’ll see how it shakes out, I suppose.

I think the choice makes perfect sense!! The setting is a circus! Imagine the freak show he’ll put on!
