The UK and France Get STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS a Couple Days Early

If you want to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens as soon as humanly possible, you may want to find your way over to France or the U.K. this December. While the film is slated to open in the U.S. on December 18th, Allocine reports via Legion of Leia that the film will open in France on December 16th and discovered through Facebook that the picture opens in the U.K. on December 17th.

This isn’t too unusual, and no film has a day-and-date worldwide release.  Everything is staggered; it’s just a matter of what degree. Keep in mind that star-wars-7-the-force-awakens-drew-struzan-poster-450x600even our December 18th release date isn’t really the release date as I’m sure there will be Thursday night showings because that’s pretty much how all blockbuster films operate now. There are no more midnight releases because studios can squeeze a bit more into the opening weekend gross if they release the film at 8:00 or 9:00 pm the night before the official release date.

So does that mean the U.K. actually gets the film on December 16th and France gets it on December 15th? Perhaps. But by that point, the Disney marketing machine will have kicked into overdrive, and they’ll probably have released 20 clips from the movie. Treasure the time right now where we’re still in the dark about the film. My big question is when press will get to see the film and when the embargo will lift.
