The first images for Amazon’s comedy pilot The Tick, which reboots the live-action adventures of Ben Edlund’s comic of the same name, are here … and they are something. We’ve got a full shot of Peter Serafinowicz – knees to antennae – in the title role and a familiar blue costume, however it’s quite a bit different from the shiny muscle suit Patrick Warburton made famous in the previous live-action iteration. There’s also a shot of Whoopi Goldberg interviewing Brendan Hines’character, Superian. I’d say more, but I think it’s best left to your eyes to judge this first look.

The Tick will debut on Amazon on August 19th as part of their comedy pilot season; the pilots will be available to view by Amazon customers, who can then vote on which pilots will move forward to become an Amazon Original Series available to Amazon Prime subscribers. Other pilots include I Love Dick, starring Kevin Bacon, and Jean-Claude Van Johnson, starring who else but Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Here’s the official synopsis for Amazon’s The Tick:

In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an underdog accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero. The Tick stars Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) and Brendan Hines (Scorpion). The Tick is executive produced by Ben Edlund (Supernatural), Barry Josephson (Bones) and Barry Sonnenfeld (A Series of Unfortunate Events), directed by Wally Pfister (The Dark Knight), and written by Edlund. The Tick is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.
