THE RAID Remake Delayed Until 2015

Posted on May 27, 2014 at 6:40 pm by David "Snackbar" Edmundson

Just about a week ago it was reported that Patrick Hughes’ remake of The Raid would be filming this September. Don’t sharpen your machetes just yet, as new reports state that production has been pushed back until the first quarter of 2015. Pre-production on the Screen Gems picture has stopped though sources insist the project has not been put into turnaround. The delay likely has to do with casting, as no cast members have been announced just yet. Some reports insist that no offers have been made nor sent out, while others say that the project was close to a green light with Luke Evans, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Ethan Hawke as frontrunners for roles. Hughes remains attached to direct but producers may well be searching for a bigger name to lead the remake. News of The Raid remake delay comes via Variety.

Here’s the synopsis for The Raid:

Deep in the heart of Jakarta’s slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world’s most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building’s lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the 6th floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission. Director Gareth Evans (Merantau) and rising martial- arts star Iko Uwais reunite in this adrenaline-fueled action film.
