Fans of the franchise can finally rest easy, knowing that the upcoming title will indeed be releasing in March 2017 as leaked by retailer GAME hours before the Switch presentation was due to take place. Alongside the release date announcement, Nintendo released a brand new trailer for the latest in the long-running franchise, showing fans exactly what breathtaking action Breath of the Wild has to offer.

The trailer shows off many of the game’s open world environments, exploring a wide variety of intriguing looking areas. Some story elements are also shown, such as the intertwining history of Hyrule’s royal family with the primal evil, ‘Calamity Ganon’. Judging by some of the trailer’s dialogue, it seems that this game’s iteration of Link has lost all memory of the events that have changed his world, though they were also said to take place over a hundred years ago.

We also catch a glimpse of a character presumed to be the Princess Zelda, who shares a brief, emotional scene with the game’s protagonist. A number of other companions that will be encountered on the player’s journey through Hyrule also get a reveal in the trailer, alongside what looks to be very action-packed gameplay. This latest video is the first to give us a real glimpse into the game’s story, with previous gameplay having mostly been focused around the open-world legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-games-awards-gameplay-linkand ability to cook featured in the title.

Interestingly, while the Nintendo Switch presentation did reveal that over eighty games are currently in development for the highly-anticipated console, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of two new games that were actually announced to coming to the Switch on launch day, the other being a party game called 1-2 Switch. A company known for their often weak launch lineups, Nintendo will have to surprise us with a few more games over the next few days to impress the vast majority of its fans.

Still, with no game in recent history generating the same hype as Breath of the Wild seems to have, there’s a reason that Nintendo saved the best until last at the conclusion of the Switch presentation. A game that is already winning awards before release, the latest Legend of Zelda may just carry the console by itself if need be.
