The CW just pulled the network equivalent of a mic drop, handing out early renewals to their entire slate of series — the 10 that are currently on the air, as well as the returning Reign. While the announcement doesn’t come with episode orders or premiere dates, it’s expected that the network, headed up by Mark Pedowitz, will spread the series out across the fall, midseason and summer in their continued push for year-round programming.

Don’t expect the heavy renewal slate to hold back pilot pickups, either. The CW currently has a number of pilots on order including the Archie-inspired series Riverdale from Greg Berlanti, the period-set supernatural adventure Transylvania, and a series adaptation of Frequency from Supernatural‘s Jeremy Carver, among others.

the-100-season-3-bellamy-bob-morley-image-4-600x401“The CW has become home to some of the most critically-acclaimed shows on broadcast television, with a wide array of fantastic scripted series across the week, ranging from musical comedy, to superhero action, to gritty sci-fi dramas,” said Pedowitz. “As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016-2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017.”

The full list of series being ordered for the 2016-2017 season are as follows:

JANE THE VIRGIN (Season 3)

CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND (Season 2)

THE FLASH (Season 3)

iZOMBIE (Season 3)

ARROW (Season 5),

SUPERNATURAL (Season 12),

DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW(Season 2)

THE 100 (Season 4)

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (Season 8)

THE ORIGINALS (Season 4)

REIGN (Season 4)

While some of these renewals were a given — namely, the DC lineup of Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow — thanks to strong ratings and critical support, a few of the other pick ups come as a surprise. The standout being Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which has had trouble landing  an audience, but has become an awards darling and earned a Golden Globe and supernatural-jared-padalecki-jensen-ackles-600x406Critics Choice Award for Rachel Bloom‘s performance — an appealing quality for a network that rarely receives awards attention.

Pedowitz has stated multiple times that Supernatural will probably carry on for as long as its leading duo Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki want to continue, going so far as to say the series will probably outlast him at this point. While The Vampire Diaries‘ audience has dwindled over the years, the Friday night move that paired it with the spinoff series The Originals has dramatically improved the network’s performance on the notoriously tough night.

Which series are you most excited to see return? Happy that they all got picked up, or wish some old standbys would drop off and make way for new blood? Sound off in the comments.
