Posted on April 29, 2013 at 8:16 am by Tyler Waterman

Chicago’s preeminent comic convention C2E2 has come and gone, but if you’re a fan of the Marvel Universe, you’re likely still feeling the impact. Marvel unleashed a massive amount of news over the weekend, but if you weren’t able to keep track of it all, have no fear! I’ve put it all together for you here in an easy-to-digest format, so you can get informed and start speculating like the rest of us!

Superior Spider-Man

According to writer Dan Slott and artist Ryan Stegman:

  • Spider-Man 2099 will appear in Superior Spider-Man #17.
  • An Osborn family member will be involved (may or may not be the Green Goblin).
  • This story was apparently hinted at waaaay back in Big Time.
  • The result of the story will set up a threat not only to Spider-Man but the Marvel Universe as a whole.
  • Slott also made a point of mentioning how prevalent time travel is across the Marvel Universe, hinting that wasn’t coincidence…

According to new writer Charles Soule and editor Jordan D. White:

  • Starting in Thunderbolts #14, the team brings its brand of chaos to Manhattan.
  • Soule wants to pay homage to the team’s erratic history (not just the current iteration).
  • The book will stick to its black-op roots despite moving locales; “not attacking various gangland enterprises.”

Avengers Arena

According to writer Dennis Hopeless and editor Bill Rosemann:

  • The next storyline will be known as the “Boss Level,” where the kids on the island are finally able to face Arcade.
  • Hopeless promised that the deaths won’t just be for shock value, but will matter and will “knock the breath out of you.”
  • The story will focus on survival in regards to the heroes, and on victory in regards to Arcade, with some “interesting Arcade moments” to come.

According to writers Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn and artist Declan Shalvey:

  • The upcoming story arc “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly” will find Deadpool teaming up with Wolverine and Captain America.
  • Deadpool will also be accompanied by Vetis, a literal demon on his shoulder.
  • The storyline will unveil a new antagonist to the Marvel Universe

Thor: God of Thunder

According to writer Jason Aaron:

  • The storyline that will follow “Godbomb” will be “The Accursed” and will send Thor across the Nine Realms for an escaped Malekith the Accursed (also confirmed to be the villain of the next Thor movie as well).
  • Aaron says he put a heavy emphasis on creating a definitive map of the Nine Realms in hopes that “by the end of this arc, readers will know those landscapes.”
  • Malekith will be seeking to destroy his fellow Dark Elves who he feels have grown weak, and “Thor and some new friends set out to stop him.”
  • The Warriors Three and Sif were confirmed to be appearing in upcoming issues.

According to writer Paul Cornell and artist Alan Davis:

  • The next major event will take place in Wolverine #8 and will be called “Killable.”
  • In it Wolverine has lost his healing factor and everyone who would want to take advantage of that knows it.
  • The event will focus on how difficult it is for Wolverine to adapt, both in battle and with his relationships with others.
  • It will take place in Wakanda and another undisclosed area, and will feature characters such as Storm, Black Panther and Kitty Pryde prominently.

X-Men: Battle of the Atom

According to writers Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron and Brian Wood, and X-Men Senior Editor Nick Lowe:

  • Marvel will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the X-Men franchise with the event “Battle of the Atom.”
  • The event will take place across all four major X-titles (Uncanny X-Men, All New X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men and X-Men), but will start and end with X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1 and #2. The latter will be drawn by a “mystery artist.”
  • The event involves both the past and the future, and (as is always promised when it comes to crossovers) “nothing is what it seems” and that the “X-Men’s world will never look the same again.”
