The 12th Doctor REVEALED as Peter Capaldi [UPDATED w/Video]

Posted on August 4, 2013 at 11:33 am by Amanda Andonian

This just in from BBC One’s Twitter feed:

So there you have it folks! Peter Capaldi is indeed the 12th Doctor, just as Jess surmised the other day in her post, “An Older Doctor? Yes!,” from yesterday. After the announcement, Capaldi said, “Being asked to play The Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself, I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight.” He also talks about reading old scripts and practicing them in front of a mirror for his audition. When he found out that he’d gotten the role, Capaldi said that he began to laugh and “hasn’t stopped laughing since.” You can watch more in this clip from BBC’s site:

Capaldi is no stranger to Doctor Who, actually. He played a guest role in the season 4 episode, “The Fires of Pompei,” which just so happens to be the same episode that Karen Gillan guest starred in before she became the Doctor’s companion, Amy Pond. I can’t wait for Capaldi to make his debut as the Doctor, and I’m looking forward to Matt Smith’s last hurrah in the 50th Anniversary special.

What do you guys think of the announcement? Let us know in the comments!
