TERMINATOR: GENISYS Sequels Get Release Dates and Chronologically Confusing Titles

Well, if Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions’ fifth installment in the rebooted Terminator franchise is going to bear the title Terminator: Genisys, then who knows what other spelling horrors we will have to tolerate for it’s inevitable sequels?  While the titles of the sixth and seventh films may be up for debate, their release dates have now been established.  To further confuse things, even though the fifth film comes out in 2015, the next two in the series won’t debut until 2017 and 2018.  And they’re being referred to as Terminator 2 and Terminator 3.  Sigh!

As THR reports, here’s the current release date calendar for Paramount/Skydance’s Terminator reboots:

  • Terminator: Genisys – July 1, 2015
  • Terminator 2 (or 6) – May 19, 2017
  • Terminator 3 (or 7) – June 29, 2018

The plan is for the two sequels to film back to back, a plan which will likely hold true as long as the first film in the rebooted trilogy is a successful endeavor.  Alan Taylor directs Arnold Schwarzenegger in his return to the title role, along with Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Matt Smith, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
