If you’ve been paying attention to the movie news world at all the past month or so, then you’ve probably caught a glimpse of at least one set photo from the upcoming Warner Bros. DC movie Suicide Squad. In fact, there’ve been so many images snapped from the film’s Toronto set that what sounded like a pretty cool cameo is no secret at all anymore. Moreover, we’ve already caught a number of glimpses of Jared Leto’s Joker, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Killer Croc.

But if you feel like a large part of the film has been spoiled for you, fear not. Director David Ayer, who makes his first foray into the franchise world with this film after helming gritty and grounded films like Fury and End of Watch, took to Twitter this weekend to offer a message of reassurance:

Indeed, while a certain chase sequence may be widely known now thanks to set photos, it sounds like Ayer and Co. still have plenty of secrets up their sleeves. In this day and age it’s nearly impossible to get the benefit of real location shooting without having out-of-context amateur photos snapped of the process. will-smith-deadshot-suicide-squad-picture-600x600Even Christopher Nolan couldn’t hide his big third act fight sequence between Batman and Bane on The Dark Knight Rises.

And to be honest, I kind of liked Ayer and Warner Bros.’ nonchalance about this whole deal. They could’ve caused a kerfuffle and tried to wipe the internet of any and every set photo, but that would’ve just drawn more attention to the sequence, leading folks to believe that what was being shot might be a very crucial part of the film. Instead, they wisely released a couple of official photos before filming began, so that audiences would at least have some frame of reference for what these characters will look like on screen. Really, though, Robbie’s Harley Quinn looks absolutely perfect no matter the context.

So as production moves to soundstages, we patiently await the film’s August 5, 2016 release date. The movie also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, as well as Scott Eastwood, Jim Parrack, Adam Beach, and Ike Barinholtz.

I really appreciate David Ayer’s approach to filmmaking. The less CGI, the better.
