Horror director Jon Knautzwho is responsible for the excellent 2010 film The Shrine, is preparing for his latest feature to premiere August 31st at the London FrightFrest. It’s also scheduled to play at the 48th Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, October 9th-18th.

Knautz sites that one of my favorite films of all time, Roman Polanski’s Repulsion, as inspiration for Goddess of Love. He says, “I was very inspired by films like Taxi Driver and Repulsion and I became fascinated with the idea of having the audience experience a film through the eyes of an individual who is completely detaching from reality. At first, you sympathize and connect with the protagonist, but as the story unravels, the viewer starts to pull away as they begin to realize that the protagonist may actually be the antagonist.

From the Press Release:

Starring Alexis Kendra (Girl House), Woody Naismith (Swelter), and Elizabeth Sandy (Starting from Scratch) and is co-written by Knautz and Kendra. Goddess of Love centers on an emotionally unstable stripper named Venus (Kendra), whose life is derailed in the wake of being dumped by her boyfriend. Brian (Naismith) was the love of Venus’ life and the thought of him having an affair with another woman begins her volatile descent into the dark side of psychosexual insanity. Sexy and shocking in the super-stylish tradition of Brian De Palma and Roman Polanski, this erotic thriller is sure to entice audiences.

With inspirations like those you can certainly sign me up for Goddess of Love! Stay tuned for more coverage and check out the trailer below in the meantime!
