LucasFilm just released that the subtitle for Star Wars: Episode VII will be The Force Awakens. It seems like a fine title, but I am left slightly underwhelmed. For one the original trilogy was all about reawakening the dormant force in the form of Luke Skywalker. Are we to believe that Luke went away, and that the force hit the snooze button and went back to sleep for 25 years, only now to re-awaken now. I am worried that all we’ve heard about the plot and characters makes me feel that this Star Wars world has not been lived in for the 30 years in between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The major thing that the the original trilogy had over the prequels was that the worlds felt lived in and you could sense a tangible history in every setting. I am sure I am overreacting because Star Wars is so close to my heart, but Abrams has burned us in the past with slick visuals and subpar story telling, and Star Wars has already made that mistake once. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is due in theaters on December 18, 2015 and stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie and more.
