Usually when a game or console receives a price cut, it’s an indication by the publishing company that they are attempting a last ditch-effort in order to get more sales pushed before people completely forget about a product. In an interesting turn of events, the upcoming release Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time has received a price cut before it has even hit the shelves. Instead of the normal $59.99 retail price, the new Sly Cooper installment will only cost you $39.99 for the PS3 version and $29.99 for the PS Vita version.

When asked about the reducedAssociate Product Marketing Manager of Software Marketing at SCEA Cristian Cardona said, “It’s a competitive market right now! We want to make sure this is a purchase you don’t have to think twice about. It’s gonna be a great game and we want to make sure as many people as possible can enjoy it.” Cardona also assured fans that you would not be receiving an incomplete or shortened title by saying, “…it’s not going to be any less of a Sly experience!”

Personally, I love this change of pace. I’m limited in what games I can purchase due to their price tag, but hearing that the next Sly Cooper game will be twenty-dollars cheaper than normal retail price makes it, as Cardona said, a “no-brainer.” The Sly Cooper games are fantastic and this looks to follow that same formula. It would be nice to see other companies adapt this concept, but that is highly doubtful. Still, think of how the video game market would be if companies reduced their big-game’s retail price in order to stay ahead of the market. What if the next Call of Duty title was released on the same day as the new Battlefield game, but was cheaper? Just an interesting thought.

In addition to being cheaper, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will also be a day one digital release, meaning you can either download it from the Playstation Network or pick up a physical copy from your favorite retail shop. Does this price warrant a purchase, Geeks? I had a lot of fun with The Sly Collection and cannot wait for Thieves in Time to come out on February 5, 2013. It is also available for cross-buy, meaning if you purchase the PS3 version you will receive a voucher to download the PS Vita version for free. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is developed by Sanzaru Games, who also worked on The Sly Collection.
