Sean William Scott Says GOON 2 Will Begin Shooting This Summer

Fans of the hockey comedy Goon, take heart. A follow-up to Michael Dowse’s 2011 film has been in the works for a few years now, with producer Evan Goldberg stating last summer that they were in the process of figuring out deals for the actors’ returns. However, it now looks as if everything on Goon 2 is set, as star Seann William Scott revealed during a reddit AMA that shooting begins this summer:

“Heh! Well, I did a bit of fight training for GOON. For GOON 2, I’ve been fight-training for the past month, and next month in May I start working with an MMA fighter, and then some skating (obviously, a lot of skating). We start shooting GOON 2 in mid-June, and if everybody does their jobs and we execute the amazing script that Jay [Baruchel] and his co-writer wrote, the fucking movie would be wicked.”

Last we heard, Dowse was poised to return to direct, so I’m hoping that’s still the case. The director’s follow-up effort, the romantic comedy What If, was an underrated gem from last year, so I’m hopeful his sensibilities will once again be driving Goon 2 behind the camera.

Story details for the follow-up are unknown, but the first film found Scott assuming the role of a bouncer-turned-minor league hockey player with a penchant for fist fighting. It sounds like there’ll certainly be more fisticuffs in the follow-up with Scott undergoing MMA training, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story develops in the sequel.
