We may not all be fans of the good Doctor here, but I certainly am one! So although I didn’t have the pleasure of attending the Doctor Who panel at Comic Con, I’ll recap what happened for you all from the guys’ notes.

The panel, which was moderated by mega-fan Craig Ferguson, featured Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Steven Moffat (writer/executive producer), Mark Gatiss (writer/executive producer), Marcus Wilson (executive producer), and David Bradley (best known for portraying Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, and Filch in Harry Potter). Bradley will be playing William Hartnell (the very first actor to play the Doctor) in the 50th Anniversary special, which airs on November 23rd of this year.

Here’s a brief recap of what the cast and crew discussed:

  • Moffat teased that there were a lot of things that he’s been setting up this season and last in preparation for the 50th Anniversary. Can’t wait to see what that might be!
  • Matt Smith talked about what makes his Doctor so different from Tennant’s Doctor, namely that the Eleventh Doctor just seems “flummoxed” by everything whereas the Tenth Doctor is more of a swashbuckler.
  • Ferguson took Moffat to task a little bit over Amy and Rory’s last episode, to which Moffat replied that they got to live into their 80’s, so it wasn’t THAT bad of a send-off. They just had to say goodbye to the Doctor in their 30’s.
  • Moffat debuted the trailer for the 50th Anniversary special.
  • When asked which Doctor Who character they’d like to play besides themselves, Smith said he’d like to play The Master and Coleman said she’d like to play Straxx.
  • Gatiss admitted that his favorite episode was “The Crimson Horror” because they got to show Dame Diana Rigg with a red leech attached to her throat on British TV. Moffat’s favorite moment was River Song’s final farewell in “The Name of the Doctor” because it was the first time ever that the Doctor has ever grabbed someone and kissed them first.
  • People asked whether Doctor Who would ever come back to the States, or if we might see Captain Jack Harkness again soon. To both questions, Moffat answered that the storyline would have to justify it.

That’s about it for the highlights from the Doctor Who panel at SDCC. Don’t forget to watch the 50th Anniversary special on November 23rd! And with that, we leave you with an adorable video of Matt Smith dressing as Bart Simpson so he can walk the con floor without being molested by fans.
