SCARFACE remake to be written by Donnie Brasco scribe

Paul Attanasio (Donnie Brasco) has signed on to re-write the remake for the Brian De Palma classic Scarface.  David Ayer (Training Day) wrote the first draft, and no reason was given for the re-write.  Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has yet to release the central character’s ethnic and geographic origin, characteristics which were central to past iterations, and the story is expected to be a blend of director Howard Hawks’ 1932 version and Brian De Palma’s 1983 classic starring Al Pacino.

I am a big fan of Donnie Brasco and look forward to Attanasio’s take on the film.  Yesterday we debuted the trailer for one of De Palma’s other big hit Carrie.
