Sam Raimi Being Eyed to Direct Matthew Quick’s Latest Novel LOVE MAY FAIL

Sam Raimi knows a thing or two about radioactive spiders, Oz and summoning demons, but he’s going to take a more grounded approach to his next project.  It’s being reported that Raimi may direct the next Matthew Quick (Silver Linings Playbook) adaptation, Love May Fail. The book doesn’t arrive in stores until June 2015, but Sony snatched up the film rights during a heated bidding war last year. Mike White (Nacho Libre, School of Rock) penned the screenplay and Matt Tolmach is on board to produce.

Raimi’s involvement isn’t a done deal yet.  According to Deadline, he’s currently in talks for the gig, but if he does commit, he’ll be working with the story of Portia Kane, a woman who leaves her fancy lifestyle and cheating husband behind for her childhood home.  While there, she reunites with her favorite English teacher and tries to help him clear his name after a classroom scandal.

As one might expect, Quick’s been doing pretty well since Silver Linings hit.  Not only is Love May Fail getting the big screen treatment, but he’s also got his 2010 novel, Sorta Like a Rock Star about a high school senior living in the back of a school bus over at Fox Searchlight and Forgive Me Leonard Peacock, the story of a teenage boy preparing to commit suicide, at The Weinstein Company.  On top of that, White is also adapting Quick’s coming-of-age story, The Good Luck of Right Now, for DreamWorks.  Assuming her negotiations went through, that one will star Brie Larsonas a librarian who believes she was once abducted by aliens.
