Filming is currently underway on James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galxy, but we still haven’t heard who will voice one of the team’s most recognizable members, Rocket Raccon. Gunn describes Rocket as “a little gnarled, miserable, pretty angry creature because there’s nothing else like him and it’s not easy to be.” Vin Diesel has been strongly hinting that he would provide the voice for fellow CGI character Groot, a walking/talking tree… yeah this movie has it all.  Now rumors are circulating that Hangover star Bradley Cooper may provide the voice for the feisty rodent.

Latino Review is reporting the rumor, but like most Marvel rumors, it is important to note that there has been no official confirmation. Marvel has always been tight fisted about their casting, and Guardians has been no exception.  Maybe now we can get a joint announcement for both characters.

455659-rocket_raccoon_clint_langley06I am excited at the prospect of the talented Cooper lending his voice to the film.  He would join an eclectic and stacked cast that includes; Chris Pratt, Zoe SaldanaDavid Bautista, Glenn Close, Michael RookerLee Pace and John C. Reilly. Marvel showed some footage to us at Comic-Con this year, and it looks like a very promising film. It is the epitome of what you want from a comic book film.

Of course Marvel wanting Cooper, and him accepting are not the same thing.  He is a very in demand actor and who knows if his schedule can accommodate the project. The silver lining (see what I did there) is that a voice-over gig is not nearly as taxing for a schedule as if he were to be cast as one of the picture’s lead. The actor is currently busy trying to put together his passion project, American Sniper.  Steven Spielberg was attached to direct with a production start-date of later this year being eyed, but the filmmaker subsequently dropped out.  Now it appears that Clint Eastwood is circling the director’s chair, but he has another project to attend to first (Jersey Boys), so it could be next year before Cooper gets in front of cameras for American Sniper.  Could he possibly fill in some of his downtime with voice work on a Marvel movie?  We’ll know for sure soon enough.
