Rumor – Chris Hemsworth in Talks to Star in LETHAL WEAPON 5; Justin Lin in Talks to Direct

Since Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are now “too old for this shit”, it looks like Warner Bros. is aiming to reboot the Lethal Weapon franchise, and hire someone who is not too old for said shit.  According to The Tracking Board, Chris Hemsworth has been offered the lead in a Lethal Weapon reboot directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6).  The script centers on “the desires of an older cop’s son (presumably Riggs’) and his wishes to join the police force.”  This plot would leave the door open to connect the reboot with the originals, which could allow Gibson and/or Glover to have cameo or supporting roles.

The Tracking Board also reports that Lethal Weapon screenwriter Shane Black has had input into the reboot, which is being written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad). It’s important to note that just because Hemsworth has been offered the role, that doesn’t mean he’s going to take it.  The actor definitely likes to stay busy, and he has three movies set for next year: Michael Mann‘s Cyber, Ron Howard‘s Heart of the Sea, and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

As for Lin, he’s got plenty of options.  He’s directing The Bourne Legacy sequel, he’s attached to direct the crime thriller Times Square, and he could direct the action-adventure Toymageddon or even a Community movie (that last one is a bit of a long shot).

I’m a big fan of the original franchise and would love to see what Lin and Hemsworth could bring to the series. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
