Rise of the Tomb Raider

Relax, it turns out Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive on Xbox One. Speaking with Eurogamer, Microsoft executive Phil Spencer said “yes the deal has a duration.” Honestly, after all the fuss Square Enix put up about the game not meeting sales expectations, I’m a little surprised at myself for not figuring this out sooner.

When asked if he would comment on the length of the duration Spencer replied, “No. It’s not because I’m trying to be a headfake on anybody. It’s a deal between us and the partner. People ask me how much did we pay. There are certain things I’m just not going to talk about because it’s a business deal between us and them. Obviously the deal does have a duration. I didn’t buy the IP in perpetuity.”

Let’s just assume Rise of the Tomb Raider will feature multiple DLC packs. I’d say it’s likely to be included with the game when it arrives on other platforms such as the PS4 and PC. So take comfort in believing you might get more bang for your buck when the exclusivity deal ends.

In the meantime, continue sending angry letters towards Square Enix and don’t forget to pre-order Uncharted 4. That’ll show ’em!
