Earlier today, Square Enix finally shed some light on details regarding Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s exclusivity. It was originally announced last year that Microsoft had set an agreement on bringing the game to¬† Xbox for Holiday 2015. Subsequently earlier this year at E3, they announced the official release date of both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions as November 10th, 2015.

Rise of the Tomb Raider continues the story of Lara Croft, “[A]fter uncovering an ancient mystery, Lara must explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organization known as Trinity. Lara must use her wits and survival skills, form new alliances, and ultimately embrace her destiny as the Tomb Raider. ”

Square Enix has announced today on the official Tomb Raider blog that the game will be coming to Steam and Windows 10 PCs early next year furthering Microsoft’s platform of exclusivity. Rise of the Tomb Raider, “will be a console exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360 for one year after its initial launch, coming to PlayStation 4 Holiday 2016.”

What’s entirely shocking about this is how much effort Microsoft has put into this deal with Square Enix. As one in the Xbox camp, I only assumed perhaps a month or even a few months of being able to play this game before my Playstation buddies could do so. But PlayStation and Sony fans will unfortunately have to wait an entire year before playing the sequel to the critically acclaimed and bestselling installment: Tomb Raider.
