J.R.R. Tolkien once said “Not all those who wander are lost” and this can pay off in dividends playing Runic Games new title, Hob. I constantly found myself wondering what’s just around the corner, can I fight this enemy, or simply saying what was that? What’s unique about Hob is that it features no real text or dialogue. The experience is in what is happening on the screen.

I won’t go into the story because telling you about it won’t do it justice, you need to experience it. There are a few characters that aren’t named who like the Main Character, we’ll call them RED, who is pictured above.  RED is led around by a Giant Robot, Runic Games named this Macebot, pictured below, who takes you on a Journey. Through your exploration you are rewarded with new upgrades and boosts to guide you along your epic quest. You are challenged by enemies and puzzles that help you see what role RED plays in the whole picture.

The gameplay is superb and full of excitement. The difficulty is there, but not too ridiculous for the everyday gamer. The artwork is great as well giving a clean presentation that doesn’t disappoint. There are discovery points hidden throughout the map that let you enjoy the scenic nature of this game. Hob has all the exploration you could want with all the challenge you need. Hob is currently available on Steam and PSN for $19.99.

Pros:

  • Gameplay
  • Artwork
  • Immersion

Cons:

  • Slightly laggy

LEGACY SCORE: 8/10
